Abhishek D. Garg, M.Sc. (Leeds) is currently working as a Doctoral Fellow/Student towards his PhD degree in the area of Anti-Cancer Therapeutics at Catholic University of Leuven (K. U. Leuven), Belgium. His doctoral studies are fully-funded by the "Leuven International Doctoral School Biomedical Sciences PhD Fellowship 2008". His most recent research before this (carried out in Leeds, UK), dealt with anti-cancer regimes against oral cancer cells in vitro, using Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) coupled with a novel second generation photosensitiser/drug.
Abhishek D. Garg completed his B.Sc. in Biotechnology from G. H. Raisoni National College (Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, India) in the year 2007, as a topper with 86.38%. He also completed a Diploma in Bioinformatics (D/L) from Bioinformatics Institute of India (Noida, India) in the same year. During this period he was also granted the 'Undergraduate Research Fellowship 2006-07' (by, G.H.R.I.I.Sc) and the prestigious, 'IAS-INSA-NAS Summer Research Fellowship 2007' (by, Indian Academy of Sciences, Indian National Science Academy and National Academy of Sciences).
Abhishek then went onto complete his M.Sc. degree in Biosciences with Human Genetics, from University of Leeds, United Kingdom in the year 2008. His degree education at Leeds was fully-funded by the prestigious, "Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme 2007-08" awarded to him by the British Government (DFID & CSC,London) and Leeds University. Abhishek was also awarded, "The Best Student Prize" award at the end of his M.Sc. degree by Leeds University for securing the highest marks in the degree program and therefore ranking at number one in the 2007-08 year group.
Abhishek currently has many awards, fellowships and/or scholarships to his credit. He has considerable number of research and scientific/bibliographic publications in regional, national as well as international periodicals or databases. Additionally, he has done various paper / poster presentations at International as well as National Symposiums or Conferences, and has also won awards for the same.
His main areas of interest broadly include Molecular Cell Biology, Human Genetics and Bioinformatics. Though Abhishek has done research work in various subject-areas; he specifically wants to pursue his career in Cancer Research particularly in research relating to Cancer Therapeutics & Diagnostics & Cancer Signaling.
