Knol Translation

A Knol-Translations Marketplace

In this Knol you will find some tips and a native-speaker, who will help you translate your Knol-Articles into his mother tongue.

Here you will find translated Knol-Help Articles : Translated Knol-Help Articles.

How can I translate my Knol-Articles?

Google Translator Toolkit

You can now use this new Google Translator Toolkit. There is a link in the right row of your Knol.

You can use the Google Translator Toolkit for documents, especially for Wikipedia, but also for Knol! You can now find this text in every Knol.If you follow the link, you can now use an automatic translation with very helpful features to correct the  translation. Your correction will be sent back to the Google Translator Toolkit which is used for other translations. Here is a YouTube Video from Google, which explains how the Google Translator Toolkit works

But if you can't speak the translated language on a native-speaker level, you need human translators or proofreaders. This is how you can find them.

You can use moderated collections in different languages for your Knols.
And you can use the following ways. Try it.

Translate and Let Translate

It's much easier to translate Knols in your own language than to translate your Knols into another language. So the way is: you translate Knols in your language and other Knol-Authors translate your Knol in their language!
There are two ways to find translators for your Knols, the direct and the indirect way.

The Direct Way: Translation-Partnerships

If you use the direct way, it's a direct tit-for-tat: If you translate a Knol for me I will translate a Knol for you. It's only difficult to find a partner for this job.

The Indirect Way: Knol Translation Exchange System

But it's also possible to use an indirect way: Jim translated a Knol for Heike, Heike translated a Knol for Sajid and Sajid translated a Knol for Jim. In this case they need an exchange system. I call it the Knol Translation System.
But first you can search for translation-partnerships for direct translations.

1. Translation-Partnerships

Here you can tell other Knol-Authors which languages you speak on a native level and which translations you need. If you need translations, put your name with a link, where Knol-Authors can make contact with you, into the table. You translate a Knol for her / him, he / she translates a Knol for you. An easy system.

Name Need translation for Knols in the language ...

 Andreas Kemper
 German
 English -> German
Dutch -> German
 Patrice Bouyrat
 French English -> French

2. The Knol-Translation-Points-System

You want to see your Knol in another language? Help Knol-Users to publish their Knols in your language and get for each character of the translated Knol one Credit-Point. The Knol Translation Points System is a virtual exchange trading system. It's a system by the Knol-Author-Community and it's not an official Google-Knol-system.

How does it work?

Claudia has 51.000 Knol-Translation-Points. And she has two Knol-articles in German language which she wants to publish in English.

John wants to publish one of his Knols in Spanish. He don't speak Spanish and his German isn't very good, but he can understand German and he is able to translate German Knols in his native language. His article has 28.000 characters. One of the two German Knol-articles has 31.000 characters. So he translates this German article into the English language and gets 31.000 Knol-Translation-Points from Claudia. She has now only 20.000 Knol-Translation-Points - maybe enough for her second Knol.

Now John can ask for a translation. And Maria from Mexico-City does this job and gets 28.000 Knol-Translation-Points. John has now one Knol more and he has 3.000 Knol-Translation-Points.

(In addition to this you can also receive Knol Translation Points for solving HTML-problems.)

How does it start?

To get the ball rolling, all Knol-Users who translate official Knols from Google-Knol get the Credit (so Luk Van Loock will be a rich man ;-)) and the first twenty Knol-Users can ask for translation without Credit.

The accounts for Knol Translation Points you will find here: Knol Translation Points.

Ask Native Speakers to Translate your Knols

Please type your name, your Knol-Translation-Points (the first 20 (No.1, No.2, No.3 ... No.20) are free), the article with a link, the number of characters of your article, the origin and the preferred language for your article. When you are happy with the result, please delete your request. Translator: if you want to translate you can leave a comment at the specific Knol.

      Limits of Science translation

Andreas, I saw that you have made a translation of my Knol "Limits of Sciece". However when I click on it I cannot see it and an error message appears. Is that a temporary error?

      Hello again!

Hi again! Andreas, I wanted to ask you if you could transfer the KTPs to my account (from the translations I completed, see below).

      Thanks,

      Angela

      Hi Andreas

I changed the highlight to yellow on both How to Save Somebody's Life and Author Guidelines for Collaborative Books because I am translating both. Just thought you should know.

If you are using Microsoft's Internet Explorer and are having problems

If you are using Microsoft's Internet Explorer and are having problems
writing your Knol, it is not the Knol site, it is "Internet Explorer"
      that is causing the problems...

Download Google's "Chrome" and use it to work on your Knol... It works
seamlessly with the Knol page... All the buttons and commands work
flawlessly... It even has "spell check" and a few other new
features... ("page" and "tools" are changed into small unlabeled icons
that have been moved to the upper right hand corner of the screen, so
they are easy to miss at first)... "Chrome" is stable and reliable,
and has not given me any problems at all... With "Chrome" everything
stays where you put it, and how you put it, and it doesn't "freeze up"
or give you an "error message" then dump you off the web..

      Hello Philippe A. Raymond

I translated your Knol into the German language:

      http://knol.google.com/k/andreas-kemper/product-red/8bgikaqot3ts/197#

You can copy it now. The translation is okay, but I have to fix two problems: html (I used first Google-Translation and now the html is horrible - maybe you can copy it first in word and then in knol) and the reference. There is a problem now with the reference, maybe a bug.

Best wishes and have good holydays
      Andreas

      Hi Stephane

      Thanks for participation.

It's only possible for translaters to get for one of your two Knols Knol-Translation-Points. The first translation is free, but for the second translation you have to translate Knol-Help-article or Knols from Knol-Authors with Knol-Translation-Points.

      Best regards
      Andreas

      Hi Andreas

I understand all of this, but I have some questions
-When you translate an article, is it you or the asker who publish this article?
-If it's the asker, what do you earn to do this?
      -... How can I become a translator ?!

Suggestion: Have reviewer (not the review at the right of the knol, but someone who can verified articles, some who are very very good)

      Thanks

      Traducción knols español al inglés

No veo que exista disponibilidad de knolers que traduzcan knols del español al inglés. ¿Va hacer posible esto?. Agradezco feedback. Gracias
