Capt. Karty has been a full-time Captain in Mosquito Lagoon for fifteen years. We have many wonderful clients who keep coming back, year by year, for Karty's services, for his personality, and for his patience.

you will feel safe in our boat and secure under the Captain's direction. You'll have an umbrella if you want a quick break from the sun or shelter from a shower.

He is not charging you to observe him fish.
he is taking out novices . Many have never fished before and he tries to work with those that have an interest in improving their casting abilities. You can take a lady out with Capt. If a man is taking a woman out on a fishing trip, he wants her to have a delightful experience. He knows that if she does not, she will hesitate next time.

TESTIMONIALS (NOT FISH STORIES)

We enjoyed the personal and professional attention we received from Capt. Karty. -Joe Shahadey of Terre Haute, Indiana

They have two flippers with 3 to 4 nails on each. Their heads are wrinkled with whiskers on their muzzles. Most Manatees weigh over 1000 pounds, can grow up to fourteen feet and live to be about 60 years old.

hundreds of years ago sailors regularly would mistake Manatees for mermaids. West Indian Manatees are the slowest mammals of Mosquito Lagoon and are one of the Earth's most endangered animals so it is grand to see one.

They eat between 20 and sixty pounds of plants and sea grass every day. Manatees do not have teeth, but they do have front molars.

Manatees could also be found in the coastal and inland waterways of Central America and along the northern coast of South America.

West Indian Manatees came from the Caribbean. Florida is said to be their northernmost territory.

Manatees will need to come up for a breath about every four mins. When Manatees come up for air, it may sound like a snort. Manatees customarily swim about 3 to 5 miles per hour, but they can swim up to 20 miles an hour in short bursts. Manatees give birth about every three years with gestation periods averaging a year. The calves nurse and depend on their mas for about two and a half years. Twins are very rare.

Captain Karty Sills has been a fishing guide in Mosquito Lagoon since 1992.
The Manatee's nearest relative is the elephant. The West Indian Manatee is related to the West African Manatee, the Amazonian Manatee, the Dugong, and Steller's Sea Cow, which was hunted to extinction in 1768.

As with wild animal populations, a certain percentage of manatee deaths are attributed to natural causes such as cold stress, stomach disease, pneumonia, and other diseases. Additional deaths are from human-related causes with include collisions with watercraft ; being crushed and drowned in canal locks and flood control structures ; ingestion of fish hooks, litter, and monofilament line ; and entanglement in crab trap lines. Finally, loss of habitat and fast declining water quality due to the spraying of manure and pesticides are the most serious threats facing the Manatees today.
