General Gameplay Tips

  1. Use the maps in the pause menu to navigate the land. Look for red X markings on the map for important mission objectives. The red X markings also appear on the HUD radar.
  2. Pistols have unlimited ammo. Always try to use the pistol at close range. It conserves the ammo for other weapons and has the benefit of quick-draw mode.
  3. Constantly save the game after every minor victory. A pointless death can easily erase progress in side missions.
  4. There are no differences in the horses. The horse is only as good as the upgrades Colton has purchased or earned for it.
  5. Hold down LB when mounting a horse. It offers a slight speed boost at the start and helps tremendously in the Pony Express missions.
  6. Keep an eye on the health meter of a horse. Losing a horse during an extended battle may mean death for Colton.
  7. Try to shoot dynamite or whiskey bombs out of the sky when thrown at Colton. The damage from the blast may hurt the enemies in the vicinity.
  8. Attack side missions as soon as they become available. Colton's skill abilities increase drastically if side missions are completed early. The increased skills help with boss fights.
  9. Check the compass if lost. Enemies are marked on the compass in a bright orange color. Horses are a dark brown and friendly characters are blue. Enemies on an elevated level are marked with a tiny arrow.
  10. Try to avoid shooting near the townsfolk of Dodge or Empire. They become enraged and start attacking Colton.
  11. Always be on the lookout for replacement ammo boxes. They are littered around missions and inside the two main towns. Try to restock ammo every time Colton enters Dodge or Empire.

Act I

CUTSCENE: The scene opens on a windy desert in 1542. Coronado's second expedition is making their way through the open plain. Suddenly a group of savage Indians appear from the dust and slaughter the entire group of men.

The Hunt

NARRATION: "Montana, 1880. My name is Colton White. My father and I hunt game for the steamboats traveling the Missouri. Not a bad living if you can stand your old man kicking you every morning at dawn..."
CUTSCENE: Colton White's father kicks him and they set out to hunt wild game.
YouTube: GUN The Hunt (Time: 8:32)
  1. The opening portion of this level explains the movement controls. Use RS to move the camera and LS to move Colton. RT draws the pistol and fires the weapon. Follow Ned up the dirt path directly ahead. Ned shoots a deer at the ridge and drops to the grass below.
  2. Drop to the grass below and follow Ned's instructions. Shoot three quail with RT as Ned scares them out of the brush. Hit RB to enter quick-draw mode on the next batches of quail. Use LS during quick-draw mode to move between targets automatically.
  3. Follow Ned and reload the gun by clicking LS. Look for a few wolves to tear down the path just ahead. Use quick-draw to kill all of them. Move up the small hill and pull out Colton's rifle by pressing B. Click LB to crouch and follow Ned to the ridge.
  4. Click RS to enter a zoom mode with the rifle. Look for Elk in the distance. They light up red in the target reticle and also show up on the radar in the right corner. Shoot two of them.
  5. Follow Ned to the left and drop off the rocks. Wolves descend on the fallen elk. Run to their position and fire shots on the wolves. Use X to slash with the knife if a wolf gets too close.
  6. CUTSCENE: Ned looks for some tracks on the ground and a giant grizzly bear attacks him! He drops his rifle and falls to the ground in pain.
  7. Go directly forward to pick up Ned's rifle immediately. It's more powerful than Colton's rifle and necessary to kill the bear. Click Y to pick it up.
  8. Aim for the bear's head to get the most damage per shot. Sidestep the bear when it charges and whip around to fire more shots. There is more ammo on the ground near Ned. Try to keep the bear away from Ned as well.

Steamboat Massacre

CUTSCENE: Ned gets up and dusts himself off. Colton starts gutting the bear while Ned offers a few life lessons. A riverboat pulls up in the background and the two men head for the boat. On the boat, Ned goes to speak with a harlot. Colton spots Ned doing something mysterious with a safe in the harlot's room. A preacher approaches Colton and introduces himself. Colton gets a creepy vibe from the preacher and tells Ned about it. The scene shifts to the preacher screaming at the harlot on the bow of the boat. Eventually he throws an axe into her back as she walks away. Colton tries to react, but is pinned down by gunfire from the shore. The preacher screams "Kill them all and find the item!"
YouTube: FUN Steamboat Massacre (Time: 9:39)
  1. Fire at the savages boarding the ship. Use quick-draw by hitting RB and use the knife (press X) when they get close. Kill about ten men before joining Ned on the opposite side of the boat.
  2. TIP: Hit up on the D-Pad to use the flask. It raises Colton's health after being attacked. There are two more flasks ahead on the right if you need more health.
  3. Kill the men on the starboard side of the boat. They won't run at Colton so zoom in with the rifle for headshots. Use quick-draw if they all start firing at once.
  4. Move back to the port side and look for four men to the stern of the ship. Kill all four and click Y near the board holding the water wheel in place.
  5. Move back up the port side and hop in the small keelboat to the left. Press Y to use the cannon. Move the cannon with RS and fire the cannon with RT.
  6. TIP: There is no target reticle with the cannon. Try to aim a bit higher than the firing ships. A couple shots should be enough to destroy them. Shoot the small rowboats to avoid fighting more enemies on foot.
  7. CUTSCENE: After Colton finishes off the boats, the fort to the left continues firing at the riverboat. The fort cannons land a shot on the captain's deck and the boat veers out of control.
  8. Pick up some rifle ammo on the port side and move forward. Ned is up on the top deck and needs Colton's assistance. Move Colton towards the bow of the ship and shoot the eight savages in the way.
  9. Look for an attacker to rush Colton's position after the riverboat guard gets killed on the starboard side. Shoot the remaining savages and move forward to shoot the two savages running down the ramp.
  10. Run up the ramp and rejoin Ned near the stern. The savages are climbing up the ship. Ready the quick-draw and try to shoot the attackers before they climb onto the top deck.
  11. Watch the radar for the incoming savages. There is more rifle ammo near Ned if needed. Continue firing on the savages until all the men are dead.
CUTSCENE: Ned sees the inevitable outcome of the battle and tells Colton that he's been lying to him all his life. Ned gives Colton an Alhambra token to give to a harlot named Jenny in Dodge City. Ned tells Colton that he isn't his father and pushes him off the boat to save Colton's life.

Honest Tom

CUTSCENE: The preacher meets up with a mysterious man in an eye patch aboard a train. The preacher offers up a report about the events on the riverboat and the man in the eye patch becomes enraged. He forces the preacher's head to the table and slices off the preacher's ear as punishment. The scene shifts to Colton waking up on the shore and being robbed by a man named Honest Tom. Colton asks about the riverboat and Honest Tom claims that everyone on the boat is dead. Colton asks about Honest Tom's extra horse and Tom challenges Colton to a race.
YouTube: GUN Honest Tom (Time: 9:55)
  1. Move up to the horse and press Y to mount it. Follow Tom into the clearing and follow the prompts. Hold LB to sprint with the horse. Be wary that continual pressing of LB could cause the death of the horse. Allow it to recharge by slowing down.
  2. Click A to jump with the horse. Return to Tom to start a horse race. Follow him to the starting point. The race moves around the entire clearing. Look for the path on the radar and try to hit A at all the fallen trees.
  3. TIP: If you are having trouble with the race, look for two shortcuts along the path. The second shortcut adds more fallen trees to the path, but it opens up a lead on Honest Tom by a considerable margin.
  4. Return to Honest Tom in the clearing after the race. He wants Colton to use the horse's skid attack to kill buffalo. Approach a buffalo and hit X a couple time to trample the poor creature.
  5. Approach Honest Tom again to enter a shooting match. Enter the quick-draw mode to beat him easily. Use the rifle to kill the wolves after the shooting match. The horse's skid attack also works well. The wolves arrive in waves of five.
  6. CUTSCENE: Honest Tom concedes to Colton, but Tom's gang suddenly rides up. It turns out Honest Tom isn't very Honest. They surround Colton and demand the Alhambra token.
  7. Move into quick-draw mode immediately and fire on Tom's two friends directly ahead. Tom is riding around the perimeter of the clearing shooting at Colton. Wait for Tom to appear and start firing at his head in quick-draw mode.
  8. Eventually Tom falls off the horse and Colton can collect any ammo in the area.
  9. Hop back on the horse and the trail to Dodge City is marked on the radar. There is a fresh horse and ammo near the exit. Move down the trail towards the river.

Find Jenny

CUTSCENE: Colton reaches the river crossing. The ferry operator tells Colton that this is his last run due to some trouble with the Apache Indians.
NARRATION: "Dodge City. Take the token to the Alhambra Saloon and ask for Jenny. That's what Ned said just he died."
YouTube: GUN Find Jenny (Time: 1:15)
  1. Upon entering Dodge City, Colton has the option of going into the Alhambra Saloon to speak to Jenny or doing some side jobs for money and stat boosts. Go talk to the Shopkeeper to purchase a Pickaxe for mining gold and the Cylinder Boring Kit to increase pistol damage.
  2. TIP: If you haven't been saving the game already, it's a nice time to start. The game automatically saves at the checkpoints, but it's nice to have a more complete save available. The save function is in the pause menu.
  3. Move back to the train depot and click Y at the wanted poster. The first mission is for George "Whiskers" Mahonee. He gambles in the nearby saloon. The reward is $10 dead and $15 alive.
  4. Pull your pistol and move into the saloon. Shoot at George's legs and rush him when he's stumbling. Click Y to put George into a headlock and X to knock him out.
  5. TIP: Always try for the knockout instead of the headshot. The payout is higher and the stat boosts are excellent.
  6. Ride down to the Pony Express and speak to Earl twice. The first mission is very simple. Speak to Tiny Tubbs at the opposite end of the town. Hop back on the horse and speak to The Shopkeeper to fetch Tiny's vittles. Return to Tiny Tubbs for the reward.
  7. TIP: Remember to use LB for extra speed on the horse. It's vital for success as a Pony Express rider.
  8. GOLD: Before returning to the shopkeeper to purchase more upgrades, ride back to the ferry operator. Take a left at his barge and ride along the shore. There is a gold deposit at the end of the canyon on the left side. Click Y at the deposit to mine the gold. Each deposit is worth $10. (1/44)
  9. GOLD: There are three deposits on the opposite shore below the broken bridge in Dodge City. Ride the horse to the bridge and look for a dirt path that leads down to a walkway underneath the broken bridge. Cross it and walk down the dirt path on the opposite side. The first is to the south along the shore, the second is near the main dirt path and the final deposit is in a cave to the northwest. (2/44), (3/44), (4/44)
  10. This is an excellent time to go play cards at the saloon. Save the game in front of the card table and click Y to play cards. The first two games are free to play and award a total of $30. The game is Texas Hold 'Em and it's a five player tournament.
  11. TIP: Raise aggressively and go all in on the first few hands. There's no penalty for losing. When the game is down to a couple players, raise on every hand to make the other players fold immediately.
  12. Colton should have about $100 at this point. Return to the Shopkeeper and purchase the Pistol Speed Loader 1, Pistol Speed Loader 2 and an Extra Health Slot. The Scalping Knife is completely useless, but the Shotgun Speed Loader is a decent investment.
  13. Save the game and move into the Saloon to speak to the bartender.

The Red Hand Gang

CUTSCENE: Colton walks up to the bar and asks for Jenny. She asks Colton about the token and he tells her about Ned. A couple men start complaining about Colton "getting a poke" before they do. They grab Jenny and fire on Colton as he dives behind the bar.
YouTube: GUN Red Hand Gang Part 1 (Time: 9:57)
  1. Crouch behind the bar (press LB) and fire on the three men near the pool table. Grab the rifle ammo behind the bar and move up the stairs to the north.
  2. Be ready to enter quick-draw mode at the top of the stairs. Kill the two men on the second floor and the third that busts through the double doors. Look for several men to the right just outside the open doors. Hide behind the wooden crate for cover.
  3. Move carefully into the saloon on the opposite end and peek around the corner. Use the crates for cover and fire on the men in the nearby rooms. Look for replacement rifle ammo and booze in the small rooms.
  4. TIP: Watch the hallway for members of the gang that pop their heads out the door. Shoot them in quick-draw mode.
  5. Move through the end of the hall and Jenny is being held at gunpoint to the right. Strafe into the room facing right and enter quick-draw mode. Shoot Jenny's kidnapper in the head once to end the stand-off.
  6. CUTSCENE: Jenny shows Colton a six gun that Ned left for him and he asks about Sadie. Jenny tells Colton that Sadie had left for Empire long ago and she lost touch. Jenny is also headed to Empire. Suddenly a whiskey bomb enters through the window and the saloon catches on fire.
  7. NEW WEAPON: Ned's old Schofield has break-apart action which allows for faster reloads. It also has good close-range stopping power.
  8. Approach the stairs directly ahead and kill the gang member crouched at the bottom. Walk down the stairs and shoot at the men near the boiler. It explodes and Jenny runs down the stairs to help out.
  9. Exit through the double doors and shoot the men with the torches as they enter. Work around the room for more ammo and booze. Look for a man on the opposite side of the bar as well.
  10. Exit the saloon and look for a horse. Hop on and ride around shooting at the torch-bearers approaching the saloon. Listen to Jenny as she calls out the directions of each attack. After Alhambra is saved, grab some rifle ammo at the train depot and walk back inside the saloon.
  11. CUTSCENE: The leader of the Red Hand Gang, Rude, calls out Colton for a showdown on the street. Colton strolls out and they get into a draw stance.
  12. Enter quick-draw mode immediately and fire at his head. Watch the power meter to the left for your damage progress. Continue firing with the pistol after quick-draw mode runs out. Strafe to the left and right to avoid the exploding bottles. After the leader is dead, fire on the remaining gang members before they kill Jenny.
  13. NEW WEAPON: Rude's Winchester 1887 single barrel shotgun - it's slow to reload but great for ripping enemies to shreds in close quarters combat.
YouTube: GUN Red Hand Gang Part 2 (Time: 3:02)
CUTSCENE: Pat Denton, the town marshal, is impressed with Colton's shooting ability. He asks for Colton's help with the busted bridge project on the west end of town. The scene shifts to Colton and Jenny speaking in the saloon. Colton mentions the preacher from the riverboat and Jenny remembers a Reverend Reed looking Sadie. Jenny mentions that the mayor of Empire, Hoodoo Brown, should know where the Reverend is located.

Quick Killer

NARRATION: "Reed. That son of a bitch is gonna pay. Just as soon as I get to Empire City."
YouTube: GUN Quick Killer Part 1 (Time: 8:45)
  1. NEW WEAPON: The Whiskey Bomb lights enemies on fire. Hold LT to charge a throw and release it to throw the bomb.
  2. There's not much to do besides speaking to the Shopkeeper or Pat Denton near the bridge. Check out the new shotgun by holding down B and selecting the shotgun. Go speak to Denton.
  3. CUTSCENE: Denton is arguing with the Orientals about finishing the bridge. Denton warns Colton about an impending attack from the nearby Apache tribe.
  4. Move down the dirt path and look for two Apaches climbing up the bridge. Shoot them and turn Colton's attention to the Indian firing fire arrows just ahead. Kill him with a zoomed rifle shot.
  5. Move along the left side of the bridge and look for more Apaches climbing the side of the bridge. Use quick-draw mode to kill them efficiently. Move further west and Colton is ambushed by several fire arrow Apaches.
  6. Use quick-draw mode or the shotgun at close range to kill every Indian. Watch out for three Apaches that charge Colton with hatchets at the end of the bridge. Pick up the booze bottles for health and continue down the dirt path.
  7. Watch out for four Apaches at the bottom of the dirt path. A couple of them have rifles. Grab more ammo at the bottom of ridge and hop in the wooden transport to search the lower platforms for explosives.
  8. Move off the transport at the middle of the bridge and shoot the Apaches charging with torches. They won't stop spawning until all the explosive barrels are thrown off the bridge. Click Y to pick up a barrel and hold LT to throw it off the side.
  9. Hop back on the transport after the six barrels are gone. Look for a group of Apaches firing rifles and arrows to the east. Shoot them with the rifle and hop out of the transport to kill the remainder with quick-draw mode.
  10. Climb back up and speak to Denton. He wants Colton to cover the Chinese workers while they construct the bridge. Follow Denton down the path and watch the flow of Apaches from the opposite shore.
  11. Indians are climbing up the side of the bridge and they rush Colton's position from the opposite side. Try to protect the Chinese workers as much as possible. Stay near their position and pick off Apaches from with the rifle. The final wave moves in from the Dodge City side.
  12. CUTSCENE: Denton is overseeing the final construction of the bridge. Quick Killer, the Apache warrior, appears on the bridge and shoots Denton's hat off with an arrow. Colton approaches to take on Quick Killer.
  13. Use quick-draw mode to fire on six rounds of fire arrows. The Apaches are aiming at the barrels of TNT. Shoot the arrows out of their flight path.
  14. The second half of the fight involves killing two waves of torch-bearing Apaches. Use quick-draw mode and aim for headshots. Do the same when Quick Killer approaches. Switch to the shotgun to finish him off.
  15. NEW WEAPON: Quick Killer's Tomahawk has good range and does a lot of damage. It replaces Colton's knife.
YouTube: GUN Quick Killer Part 2 (Time: 3:09)
CUTSCENE: Colton kicks over the dead body of Quick Killer and Denton is happy. Colton asks about the stagecoach and Denton tells him that there are only two men riding to protect Jenny. Colton is understandably pissed off.

Who needs Wyatt Earp?

  1. Before speaking to Jenny, go talk to Pat Denton again. He wants you to keep the peace in Dodge City. Ride out to the east and look for a group of highwaymen. Turn on quick-draw mode when near the men and use LS to quickly shoot all three riders.
  2. Move back to the west side of Dodge and look for the poker brawl. Use the corner of a house to pop out and shoot the men in the brawl. You can also charge the pack with a horse and fire a shotgun into the crowd.
  3. Move east to speak with the barkeep. He mentions that the opium pusher is behind the old bar on the west side of town. Follow the radar and use the houses for cover. Kill the three bodyguards and the opium pusher with the rifle at long range.
  4. This brings an end to the first "Keep the Peace" side mission. Speak to Denton again to start the next mission. The first mission involves running into the Alhambra saloon and shooting three men before they can kill the whore.
  5. The second mission requires a bit more skill. Move to the east side of town on the right side. There is a hostage being held near the water tower. Peek around the corner in quick-draw mode to kill three bodyguards and the hostage taker.
  6. Move to the opposite side of town to find the third mission. A civilian is being held up by three thugs. Try to kill all three men in quick-draw mode before the victim dies. Go back to Denton and speak to him for start the final "Keep the Peace" section for Dodge City.
  7. Ride out to the west edge of town and look for the campfire gang on the left side of the street. The most efficient method is firing with the rifle at a distance.
  8. Move down to the docks to help with a powder keg delivery. Pick up the powder keg and slowly move toward town. Look for enemies pacing around town while delivering the keg. Hide behind the houses and place the keg in a covered position before charging the bandits.
  9. As soon as the powder keg delivery ends, run for the nearest horse. The third mission involves a group of bandits charging the town on horseback. Use the rifle to pick as many as possible from a distance and use quick-draw mode at close range.
  10. Keeping the peace doesn't pay very well, but the stat boosts are excellent. Load up on rifle ammo and go speak to Jenny.

Stage Coach

CUTSCENE: Jenny is loading up her baggage on the stagecoach. Jenny asks Colton to shoot her in case the Apaches gain the upper hand.
YouTube: GUN Stagecoach Run Part 1 (Time: 5:07)
  1. The main goal of this level is to protect the stagecoach. Ride across the open bridge to the west and four Apaches approach from the burning shack. Shoot them with quick-draw mode long before the stage arrives.
  2. Move into the canyon and fire on the Apache on the ledge to the northwest. Three more Apaches fire from the ground level to the west. Move up to the barricade and dismount. Colton has to grab the TNT on the opposite side of the barricade.
  3. Look for a skinny path between the right side of the barricade and the rocks. There are five Apaches in the cavern and three more in the open section to the west. Use the cover of the rock walls to protect Colton from arrows and rifle shots.
  4. Grab three barrels from the upper level and toss them to the ground level. Stack the barrels in the marked area near the barricade. Fire on the barrels to make the barricade explode.
  5. Hop on the fresh horse near the stagecoach and ride ahead along the path. Cross the bridge and fire on the incoming Apaches. Look for more Apaches in boats on the river and a couple Apaches on horses. Try to stay ahead of the coach and use quick-draw mode at close range.
  6. CUTSCENE: An Apache takes out the guard riding shotgun with one well placed arrow. His body falls off and breaks the wheel pin on the stagecoach. The stagecoach grinds to a halt and the Apaches swarm. Jenny pops out of the coach firing point black range at the Apache.
  7. Try to stay near the coach for cover. Use quick-draw mode to kill the first swarm and the rifle to kill the Apaches on the ridge. Watch for Apaches approaching from the rear as well. Shoot the explosive barrels when the Apaches on horseback approach.
  8. After the stagecoach is patched up, Colton is riding shotgun on the coach. Shoot the barrels to blow open the stone barricade. Look for Apaches in groups of two as the stagecoach climbs the mountain. Look for explosive barrels to shoot as well.
  9. Apaches approach on horseback on the left and right sides. Shoot them in the head with quick-draw to avoid a prolonged battle. When the coach has to turn around, look for Apaches to the right side of the coach. Shoot them at a distance.
  10. TIP: If you run out of rifle ammo, there is an automatic ammo drop about halfway through the trip.
  11. Shoot the explosive barrels in any wagons that approach. After entering the canyon, look out for Apaches that jump on the wagon. As the stagecoach crosses the final bridge into Empire, look for a final Apache wagon to the left. Blow it up and enter the town.
YouTube: GUN Stagecoach Run Part 2 (Time: 7:06)
CUTSCENE: The stage pulls up in Empire and Hoodoo Brown greets the stagecoach. Hoodoo greets Jenny and she introduces him to Colton. As Hoodoo takes her into the saloon, a man in a white mask rides past the saloon and throws a whiskey bomb into the window. Hoodoo screams as the masked man rides away.

Act II

Welcome to Empire

  1. Before attacking the main story again, take a look at the new side missions. Look for the wanted poster on wall of Hoodoo's saloon. Butch Mainard is outside of Empire and along the road that the stagecoach just rode in on. Follow the radar and shoot his horse to subdue him.
  2. Ride back into Empire, but stop at the Indian Trader. Pick up some Mild Herbs to increase quick-draw duration by 25%. Head back to the wanted poster and start the mission for John H. Greed. Leave Empire again and follow the same stagecoach path. Greed starts riding away on his horse as Colton approach.
  3. TIP: Try to kill the horse before Greed reaches the second canyon. His bodyguards are too much of a hindrance. If Greed reaches the second canyon, forgo the extra payout and kill Greed.
  4. Ride back to Empire and take the Shifty Sholz wanted poster mission. Shifty is hiding out in the canyon that Colton had to blow up with the explosive barrels. Ride through the canyon and shoot Shifty in the head. Shoot his cohorts as well and take the horse back to Dodge City.
  5. TIP: You may have enough cash to purchase the Heavy Cylinder Boring Kit from the Dodge City shopkeeper.
  6. GOLD: Ride out over the Dodge City Bridge and mine the deposit to the far left of the train tracks. (5/44)
  7. GOLD: Look on the right side of the tracks in the same area. Climb the small hill and leap over the canyon overhang on the horse. Mine the gold deposit on the opposite side. (6/44)
  8. Ride back to Empire and speak to the Federal Marshall. He needs help with the ambush of the Miller gang. Move to the starting position in southeast Empire. Climb to the roof via the stairs and throw explosive barrels into the intersection. Wait for the Miller gang to arrive and shoot the barrels. Chase down any survivors.

There's Gold in Them There Hills!

NOTE: You can gather up the gold at any point during the game. The advantage to doing it immediately is the ability to upgrade equipment and stats sooner. This helps tremendously on Hard or Insane difficulty. Here's a rundown of all the available gold around Empire and Dodge.
  1. Grab a horse in Empire and ride into the ditch in the middle of town. Trot toward the train tracks and mine the gold in the far left corner. (7/44)
  2. Ride to the opposite side of the ditch and look for another gold deposit in the narrow stream. (8/44)
  3. Look for an entrance to another portion of the canyon near the Livery Stables. Ride to the northwest along that path to find three gold deposits in a small cave. (9/44), (10/44), (11/44)
  4. Turn around and ride along the ditch to the east. After Colton passes the horseshoe shaped rock passage, use the horse to jump up the hill to the immediate left. There is a gold deposit at the top of the highest position of that hill. It's in a small cave. (12/44)
  5. From Empire, follow the train tracks to the east. Look for a small passage on the right rock wall when the train tracks start to diverge. (There's usually a bandit attack here.) Look for a gold deposit just inside the entrance and a second deposit in the rear of the clearing near some wolves. (13/44), (14/44)
  6. Continue following the railroad track to the east. Look on the left side of tracks to spot a gold deposit against the rock wall. (15/44)
  7. Follow the railroad track past the farm on the right. Look for a large canyon area on the left. There's a small house in the clearing. Look for a mine entrance to the west of that house. There are two gold deposits in the mine. (16/44), (17/44)
  8. Ride to the northeast of the house to find a gold deposit against the rock wall. (18/44)
  9. Backtrack to the rail and ride east. Follow the path towards Dodge City. When the track diverges into a tunnel on the left, look for a gold deposit at the top of that tunnel entrance. (19/44)
  10. Continue following the rail east and look for another gold deposit on the right side. It hugs the rock wall. (20/44)
  11. Follow the path of the recent stagecoach mission. Follow the road to the wooden bridge. Instead of crossing over it, ride the horse to the right. There is a narrow path with a gold deposit. (21/44)
  12. Continue along that narrow path and drop off the corner of the ledge. Hug the wall on the left and look for a second gold deposit along the wall. (22/44)
  13. Move along the path towards Empire and stop at the area that the stagecoach broke down. Look for a gold deposit in the muddy stream. It's on the north end. (23/44)
  14. Continue up the mountain. Pass two buildings on the right and two buildings on the left. Instead of following the bend to the left, look for a gold deposit on the rock face to the northeast. (24/44)
  15. Look out for a deposit behind the next building to the right. Colton has to climb a rock face on the left of the building to reach it. (25/44)
  16. Ride west and look for a house on stilts. Ride up the path to the left of the house and follow it to a gold deposit over the train tunnel entrance. (26/44)
  17. Look along the wall to the northeast of the large metal enclosure. There is a gold deposit hugging the wall. (27/44)
  18. Ride to the west past the Indian Hunter. Look for a house on stilts. Walk up the path on the right and immediately turn around to spot a gold deposit behind a rock. (28/44)
  19. Backtrack to the Indian Hunter and ride into Piper Lake towards the south. Look on the south side to mine a gold deposit on the ledge. (29/44)
  20. Look to the northwest of the dock house on the water. There is a gold deposit sitting in the shallow water near a large rock. (30/44)
  21. Follow the path east of the Indian Trader. Look for a gold deposit behind a tree on the left. (31/44)
  22. Climb the trail to the north of the previous gold deposit. There is a gold deposit in the cave tunnel. (32/44)
  23. Look southwest of the Indian Trader to find a gold deposit on a gray rock ledge. There is also a gold deposit behind the nearby waterfall. (33/44), (34/44)
  24. Ride into canyon to the left of the waterfall. Follow the path to the right. The area opens up into a small rocky clearing. Look for a blue stream in the middle of the clearing. Follow it to the left to find a gold deposit. (35/44)
  25. Follow the stream to the opposite end and mine another gold deposit. (36/44)
  26. Continue northwest up the mountain and look for a small cave under a camp. (Don't worry about the men in the white masks) The gold deposit is underneath the camp. (37/44)
  27. Move up into the camp and follow the path along the rock wall. There is a gold deposit to the east. (38/44)
  28. Follow the path back into Empire. Look for a gold deposit on the left side of the canyon wall. (39/44)
  29. NOTE: The remaining five gold deposits are in sections of the game that can't be reached yet.
  30. Colton should have about $350 at this point. Pick up the 2nd Extra Health Slot in Dodge City. Load up on Powerful Medicine at the Indian Trader. Head back to Empire and collect the Quality Horseshoes, Premium Horse Chow, Rifle Speed Loader, Rifle Speed Loader 2, Barrel Extension, Long Barrel Extension, Shotgun Ammo Belt and the Rifle Ammo Belt.

  1. TIP: The trick to killing the animals with the bow is crouching and approaching slowly. Horses cannot be used. Wait for a prompt about firing range to pop up and shoot the beast in the head.
  2. TIP: Colton can also simply shoot them with a rifle or pistol. The hunt is over quickly but the stat boost is not as high.
  3. Speak to the Indian Hunter if you killed the Gray Wolf around Dodge or the ranch. He offers another mission to kill the Great White Buffalo. It grazes in the Badlands across from the ranch.
  4. The next animal is the White Wolf. The White Wolf hands out at the waterfall near the Indian Trader and the river in the Apache canyon.
  5. The Mountain Lion creeps around to the southeast of the Indian Hunter. Climb up the mountain and look for the lion on the pass that leads to the old mines.
  6. The Great Wolf hunts buffalo on the Badlands. Look around the path between Empire and the Ranch to find it creeping around the landscape.
  7. The Grizzly Bear hangs out next to Empire. Look around the canyon area near the bridge to find it.
  8. After finishing up all the hunting missions, ride into Apache country and speak to Soapy near the river.

Across The Badlands

CUTSCENE: Soapy and Colton notice the hanging dead bodies that the Apaches left as a warning. The two are brought to Many Wounds. Many Wounds tells Colton of the Magruder visit to the doctor. Many Wounds was just a child when it happened. Ned White offered to take a baby that survived from the massacre. That baby was Colton. Many Wounds offers the second piece of the cross to Colton. The complete cross is a treasure map.
YouTube: GUN Across the Badlands (Time: 8:40)
  1. Walk down the mountain and hop on the horse near Many Wounds. Follow him to the Badlands. Ready the rifle as Magruder's men attack the group. Use quick-draw and the rifle to kill every soldier.
  2. Follow Soapy to Piker Lake. Walk up the mountain path to the north and shoot the mountain lions as they appear. Follow Soapy to the top of the peak.
  3. NEW WEAPON: The Loco Dynamite Bow is one of the most powerful weapons around.
CUTSCENE: Soapy and Colton are looking over the land. Soapy translates the Latin writing and Colton uses the cross to find the entrance. Unfortunately a cannon blast from a nearby train hits Colton. Soapy goes tumbling down the mountain and forced into Magruder's train car.

Escape the Ambush

YouTube: GUN Escape the Ambush (Time: 9:32)
  1. Run for the busted house and use it for cover. Peek around the corners to shoot the explosive barrels in the area. Magruder's Militia is deadly and has extremely good aim. Kill the remaining men in the area with quick-draw mode.
  2. CUTSCENE: Soapy is being tortured in the train car. Magruder is shooting off Soapy's fingers. Soapy tells him where to find the treasure and escapes after Magruder turns his back on Soapy.
  3. Move slowly around the next corner and shoot at the heads of the militia. Continue down the path to shoot more militia with quick-draw mode. Be careful of the tunnel as it's full of explosives.
  4. Stay at the edge of the tunnel when the swordsmen charge Colton. Use the rifle to pick them off. Hop on a horse and ride down to Soapy.
  5. CUTSCENE: Soapy apologizes to Colton about telling Magruder everything. Colton helps Soapy up and tells him to get a message to Clay about attacking the mine. Colton leaves to settle Soapy's debt with Magruder's muscle.
  6. Dutchie is on the train using a Howitzer cannon. Take cover at the train engine and pull out the rifle. Ride around the clearing and pop shots into Dutchie's head. Watch out for the men shooting from the train and riders coming from the northwest.
  7. TIP: Never stop moving! Dutchie's cannon packs a mean punch when Colton takes a direct hit.

Magruder's Mine

NARRATION: "Magruder's turned the mountain inside out looking for Quivera when all along the Lost City was right over his head. I've got to beat that bastard to it."
CUTSCENE: Colton is seen helping Clay get on the moving train. Colton plans on using the train to crash into Magruder's Mine. Colton and Clay jump off the train at the last second. It crashes into the mine entrance.
YouTube: GUN Magruder's Mine Part 1 (Time: 9:51)
  1. Wait for Clay to take position and run to the cannon on the left. Use it to blast the two Gatling guns in the building to the north. Colton may need to stop for health between shots. Kill the remaining militia and follow Clay.
  2. The junction switch has to be changed along the track. Be careful of militia on the ground and two Gatling gunners along the walkway to the west. Flip the switch and hop on the cannon to blast the Gatling gun bunker.
  3. Stay on the cannon and fire on the men in the building to the right. Shoot the wagon of men that come around the corner as well. Look for another Gatling gun bunker and a cannon bunker to fire on when turning the corner.
  4. Shoot the Mine Entrance door and fire on the militia inside. It's actually simpler to dismount from the cannon and fire on the men with quick-draw. Grab the ammo and health inside the small shack before hitting the second junction switch.
  5. Hop on the cannon again and use it to blow up the debris in the path. Use the cannon to shoot out the supports on the side tunnels to halt the continual spawning of militia. Colton has to stay on the cannon or it won't move.
  6. TIP: Look for a side tunnel at the next junction switch. It contains ammo and health.
  7. Try to snipe the two Gatling gunners at the end of the passage. Use the rifle. Hit the junction switch and ride the cannon car again. Watch out for the three soldiers on the right as the cannon passes the Gatling guns.
  8. Stay on the cannon to blast the barricade. Look for three Gatling gunners on the left side of the next room. There is also militia on the ground floor.
  9. TIP: When the cannon stops again, look for another side passage with health and ammo. There's also plenty of health in the junction switch room.
  10. Turn the switch on the circular platform. Cover the men as the track is spun around. Militia spawn in groups of two and run down different tunnels in the room. Watch the radar for help.
  11. Hop on the cannon again as it crosses the new track. Blast through the final section of blockade.
  12. CUTSCENE: The mine is crumbling around the men. Colton tells Clay to take the men out of the mine. Colton is seeking revenge on Magruder.
  13. Move through the doorway and look for militia on the hill to the left. Use the ruins for cover. Move up the dirt hill and hide at the corner. Peek out to pop shots at the militia. There are at least ten soldiers in the area. The rifle works best.
  14. Search the area for health and ammo. Move into the passage to the east. Follow it to find more health and a resupply of arrows.
YouTube: GUN Magruder's Mine Part 2 (Time: 8:27)
  15. CUTSCENE: Colton walks into a room filled with gold. Magruder is standing in the middle of the room admiring his riches. Colton calls him a "One-Eyed Bastard" and Magruder fires the first shot.
  16. The key to killing Magruder is staying out of his line of fire. Use dynamite arrows to shoot the green gas pockets on the floor. If timed correctly, the fire blast from the gas pocket damages Magruder.
  17. Continue running around the passage and avoiding direct contact with him. Regular weapons don't damage him. Just continue to shoot the gas pockets until he retreats upstairs.
  18. His attack pattern changes to throwing dynamite or shooting Colton. Fire a rifle round into his head and wait for him to recover. Enter quick-draw mode and fire on the large dynamite pack that's thrown. The blast should weaken the cave walls around Magruder.
  19. TIP: Watch for regular dynamite being tossed as well. Use quick-draw to divert their path from Colton.
  20. After three or four explosions, the dynamite blasts bring down a giant chunk of rock on Magruder.
  21. NEW WEAPON: Magruder's Seven Barrel Siege Gun, also known as the Nock Gun, is powerful, fast and extremely deadly. It's loaded into the shotgun slot.
YouTube: GUN Magruder's Mine Part 3 (Time: 8:11)
CUTSCENE: Colton walks up to Magruder and decides not to kill him. Colton starts leaping out of the cave and Magruder is screaming at him to come back. As Colton leaps for the final rock, Many Wounds helps him escape the mine. Magruder is seen crushed by a giant rock.
Congratulations, you have just beaten GUN!

Achievement Tip

If you followed the walkthough, you already have every achievement accept for the difficulty achievements. Unfortunately the difficulty achievements do not stack. The developer wants you to play through the game three more times. There is a secret way around this.
  1. Start a new game on another difficulty level. After shooting the birds with Ned, look for two small rocks on the edge of the riverbank. They are to the northeast near a fallen tree.
  2. Stand in the middle of the rocks. Hold LB, LT, RB, RT and A for a few seconds. Listen for a stange sound to ring.
  3. Press Start and enter the Options menu. Select the GUN option at the bottom of the list. Select the Missions option and the Main option. Scroll down the list to select Magruder's Mine.
  4. After the level loads, go back into the Gun menu and look for Checkpoints. Select Kill Magruder Part 2 and the final portion loads.
  5. Pop into the menu a final time and select the GUN option. Toggle the Help option on to get all the weapon upgrades for the fight.
  6. Kill Magruder and repeat this process on the remaining two difficulty levels.
