The iPhone is a cellphone designed by Apple. It is marketed as a
breakthrough touchscreen phone/media player/internet device.
It has a limited amount of physical buttons and a dominating touch-
screen on the front. The iphone incorporates ATT visual voicemail,
Application store, camera, Wi-Fi, 3G, iPod and etc, into a
cellphone.

Screen

The screen is a 3.5 inch LCD screen, covered by a scratch
resistant glass. Since it is a capacitative touchscreen, no stylus
can be used, instead, human bare skin must be used to transmit
the needed electrical conductivity. The iphone has Multi-touch,
which incorporates complex gestures to preform tasks. Such
examples are pinching in, to zoom in, and tapping with two fingers
to zoom out and scroll quickly.

On the screen there are three sensors. A proximity sensor which
shuts off the display when the iphone is brought near to the face,
an ambient light sensor which adjusts brightness.

A built in accelerometer sense the orientation of the iphone. It is
a 3d Axis accelerometer and when the phone is tilted landscape,
the screen changes with it to adjust.

Audio

The iphones headphones are similar to the iPod's, except
that there is a built in Microphone.
Both versions of the iphone have a 3.5 mm headset jack,
but the first generation's is recessed. And most headphones
need an adapter to fit in the jack. The 3G version, however
does not. The iphone has bluetooth, but no A2DP support, which
eliminates the use of stereo bluetooth headset. There is a built in
speaker, but the quality is not good.

Storage

The original iphone was released in 4gb and 8gb flavors, but
after a price drop, the 4gb was discontinued, and a 16 gb version
was introduced. The current iphone comes in 8gb and 16 gb
flavors, but there is speculation of a 32 gigabyte iphone, due
to the 32 gigabyte ipod touch.

Media/Camera

Both versions of the iphone have a built in iPod in it. And if turned
landscape, the iphone exhibits coverflow albums. Users are able
to buy songs wirelessly on their iphones which later sync to their
computers at home. Also, youtube is a present application, in which videos can be viewed through wifi, edge or 3g.

The camera on both iphone's are 2 megapixel. They lack the ability to video record. There is no flash, zoom or autofocus.

Restrictions

The old generation iphone was sold without contract in apple and att stores, to be later activated on itunes. The current iphone requires in store activation. Hackers have bypassed the old activation system to unlock to any carrier with GSM (tmobile and att).

Prices

The old generation Iphones were sold at prices::
         4gb: 499
         8gb: 599 (later dropped to 399)
         16gb: 499
The iphone 3g is priced at the subsidized price at:
         8gb: 299
         16gb: 399
There is no way to buy an iphone 3g without activation and
a 2 year contract agreement through att (at this time)
