Laura Knaperek - Background




Laura Knaperek was an Arizona State legislator for 10 years.  She represented both districts 27 and 17, where she served cities including Tempe, Chandler, Ahwatukee and portions of Chandler.In addition to serving in the legislature, Laura chaired the House Appropriations Committee and the Joint Legislative Budget Committee.  She also sponsored legislation to increase educational and work-related opportunities for the disabled in Arizona. 

Before Laura Knaperek served proudly in the Arizona Legislature, Laura was the executive director for the Arizona Consortium for Children with Chronic Illness, where she was an advocate for children with special needs. She has also volunteered on the boards of the Arizona Center for Habilitation; Mentally ill Kids in Distress; the Arizona Initiative for Mental Health; and the President’s Committee on Mental Retardation.



Laura Knaperek's Political Experience and Positions



While in the Legislature, Laura was a steadfast advocate for Arizona’s families.  Whether it was ensuring that Arizonans kept more of their hard-earned dollars, or working to increase educational opportunities for our state’s kids, Laura’s focus was on making Arizona a better place to raise a family, start a business or go to school.

Laura has proven her position as a fiscal conservative in her legislative career.  Laura believes Arizona families are overtaxed, and she shepherded a $390 million income tax reduction through the state Legislature in 2006, which was the largest income tax rate reduction in the state's history.

Laura Knaperek is running for a seat in the US House of Representatives as a conservative Republican, and lists the following as important issues she would confront, as well as her positions:

Balancing the Budget -
Pass a constitutional balanced budget amendment
Reduce spending
Transparency in government

Taxes and Fiscal Policy -
Reduction of the corporate income tax rate
Eliminate the death tax
Reform personal income taxes

ENERGY-
Domestic exploration and increase refining capacity
Encourage development of alternative energy sources
Nuclear expansion

IMMIGRATION -
Secure the border
Once the border is secured, updating the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) is in order.
Laura does not support amnesty


Laura Knaperek and Her Family


Laura and her husband reside in Tempe, Arizona, where they have raised six children. Laura and her husband Bob also have eight grandchildren.
