Mastermind groups have been always been around but under various names. I can't think of any leader, even the worst tyrant, who did not have some kind of advisory group around him. All heads of state have
different councils, advisory boards and ministers, who work as the mastermind group. In business there
are the managers, managerial board, and other bodies that advice, criticize, bring up new ideas for
marketing and strategies.
The basic function of all these groups is to find new and better ways to do what the person, business or institution needs in order to move forward.
A very popular word was once think tank. This was again people from various fields meeting to find solutions to new issues or problems, of cooperation and brainstorming.
The world has changed, and many more people have the need to surround themselves with others in the
same field or related fields. The internet has made it so much easier to do so. Yes, we still have to set aside the time, but we don't have to add time for traveling to the meeting and back again.

So we are then just calling a child by a different name. As with all the older forms of mastermind groups, the purpose is today very similar. It is finding solutions to new issues; it is the exchange of ideas and concepts; it is a workshop in cooperation; it is a place for brainstorming.

The advantages are innumerable. For one you realize you are not alone, that you do not have to do

Depending on the structure of the group there can also be great support from all members to all members. If the masterminding is within high business and part of the weekly business routine, the support may be shown in a very different manner than in small business or study groups.
For small businesses and entrepreneurs the participation in such meetings far outweigh the time used. Often the ideas and exchanges will save time in research, finding technical solutions, building business and marketing strategies and more.

If you don't off hand know people you can mastermind with, there are easy ways to find them. If you are a small business person or entrepreneur you could join a business circle. They often have membership of
20-40 members and there will be professionals there who you will naturally connect with such as RE agents
with lawyers specializing in RE contracts, such as freelance copy writers joining up with internet
marketing consultants or advertising agent. The possibilities are endless.
If that is not an option, the internet is a great tool. Join social networking sites and through them join groups of similar interest, or start your own. The meetings will take place on-line instead of off-line. You can also join forums on the internet. You are bound to be able to find one for your field.

The time to start masterminding is as soon as possible, maybe even before your project gets underway. But any time is good.
Business cirle meetings usually take place once a week, with personal one on one according to choice. If you establish your own off-line mastermind group with professionals to support you in your field, such as your lawyer, accountant, marketing consultant, there should be a set day and time for a weekly meeting. The same goes for on-line mastermind sessions.
