This is an easy and fun way to make your own unique Christmas cards. This can be an enjoyable family project which will promote togetherness and save money. Children enjoy collecting leaves and creating these cards.

The main idea is to use leaves from any tree to create holiday cards by merely using your imagination.

Supply List

- Leaves, foliage, small branches or twigs

- Stock paper or used gift wrap

- Glue or spray adhesive

- Decorations: glitter, ribbons, seeds, beads etc

- Pencils, markers, acrylic paint, crayons

- Cloves, cinnamon, pine needles

- Envelopes

Choosing the Leaves

Find leaves that suggest a holiday motif.

Here are some examples:

- Maple Leaves:  These leaves often resemble stars.

- Oak Leaves: They sometimes look like Christmas trees.

- Elm Leaves: These can represent candle flames.

Drying the leaves

Dry the leaves by placing them between two pieces of wax paper. Press them in a heavy book such as a telephone directory for no less than 24 hours.

To Assemble

Step One

Fold your sheet of paper in half. The outside cover page is for your design. The inside is for your holiday greetings.

Step Two

Lay one large dry leaf in the center of the front page or use some small leaves to create a design. Glue the leaves in place. You can also draw a candle and top it with an elm leaf as the flame.

Step Three

Once the leaves are positioned you may add as many decorations as you wish in order to personalize your card. If the leaf resembles a pine tree, you can draw a star on the top or add glitter to make it shine.

Step Four

Finally write your personal message on the inside of the card and it will be ready to send. Put a clove or a few pine needles into the envelope for a fragrant earthy surprise upon opening the envelope. Your friends and family will really appreciate this original "crafty" card.
