Chief, Sports Medicine and Shoulder Service, University of California, San Francisco

I have a special interest in taking care of patients with sports medicine and shoulder injuries.  After graduating at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, I finished orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.  I then did my fellowship in Sports medicine and Shoulder Surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.  I have been at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) since 2003 and is currently the Chief of the Division of Sports Medicine and Shoulder.

My team at UCSF provides comprehensive care for athletes and week-end warriors.  We are one of the largest sports medicine providers at Northern California.  Our team provide medical support for national, regional and local sports team and events, namely US women soccer national team, University of California, Berkeley Inter-scholastic Athletes, San Francisco and Nike women's marathon, San Francisco Playsafe High school Program etc...  My research interest has been on quantitative MR imaging of cartilage, kinematic MR of knee kinematics, multi-center clinical outcome studies on rotator cuff injuries and ACL tears.  Our research group here at UCSF are also exploring stem cell manipulations and interventions to improve management of cartilage injuries.
