It's widely known for its famous temple, Angkor Wat, and its role as being byproduct of Richard Nixon's illegal bombing of its border with Vietnam. As a result the country was destabilized and opened the door for the Khmer Rouge to perform a coup and commit genocide. The Khmer Rouge systematically murdered politicians, artists, and anyone who was educated.
