Japan  ::  At A Glance

Japan is an island nation situated in northeastern Asia, nestled between the North Pacific Ocean and Sea of Japan. Four major islands make up Japan, Hokkaido in the north, the main island Honshu, Kyushu to the south and the smallest island, Shikoku. A further 4000 or so smaller land masses surround these central islands.

With a population of over 126 million, most of whom reside within Japan's densely populated urban areas, Japan has the second largest economy in the world and is an influential player in global affairs holding a seat in the United Nations, G8 and G4. Japan's capital is Tokyo, the largest metropolitan city in the world with over 30 million residents.
