1 Foreword
This article marks the first in my series on manga and anime shows, so I hope you enjoy it. Clicking on The Chishikiyoku Project certification image above will redirect you to the homepage for all of our projects where you will be able to find a link to our ChiPortal for anime and see what other manga, shows and topics we have written about.Google Knol is already infested with wikipedia clones. Searching for "Naruto" will reveal multiple direct copies from wikipedia entries. This article is not going to be a simple copy and paste from the internet. It is The Chishikiyoku Project members' firm belief that we should provide relevant and content rich information that is new and original.
In this article you will find that the information you get is concise and informative, provided alongside lots of images and video content. What this means is that you will not find here long detailed descriptions of the story, characters or the shows' history. However, we know that some people want this. So, for every area that we talk about you shall be linked to a number of sites where you can find a more in depth discussion on that topic. You can think of this article, perhaps, as a compilation of search engine results with simple and clear introductory summaries on each topic.
Also, you will be able to find a lot of links to media items related to the show, for example Naruto openings (OP) and endings (ED), links to download and watch online the latest Naruto Shippuuden episodes and much more. Our intention is to provide a completely alternative style from wikipedia where you will be able to gain quick access to the material that you want, rather than simply facts and figures.
That was rather long, so now let's get this started!
2 General Information
The first manga for this series was written by Masashi Kishimoto (read more about the author) and published in 1999 by Shonen Jump, and is still after all this time in production today. It has become one of the most popular manga series of all time and has developed into Shonen Jump's best-selling product, having sold over 71 million copies in Japan alone. The manga is so far separated into two parts, with Part I following the start of Naruto's journey as a ninja, and Part II returning after a two and a half year gap to see the development they have made and following a new storyline and introducing new characters. The Naruto anime series began in 2002, initially following the first chapters of the manga before catching up and then following a side plot written exclusively for the anime. In 2007 the anime reached the end of Part I of the manga series, and a new series entitled Naruto: Shippūden began which starts off where Part II of the manga begins. The manga and shows popularity extends beyond Japan, with a massive following in the West where Viz Media has licensed the production of English versions of the series. The more interested fans keep up with the manga chapters and anime episodes by reading and watching them online, where dedicated fansubbing groups translate the material from Japanese to English.
3 The Plot
Uzumaki Naruto is a young adolescent shunned by the village in which he lives and driven into a life of performing cheap pranks and making immature jokes in an attempt to get the attention for which he longs. His shortcoming which ensures that all the other villagers reject him he doesn't know of and isn't even within his control. For when Naruto was a young babe he was used as a vessel to seal away a demon nine-tailed fox which was destroying the ninja village of Konohagakure in which he now lives. It was decreed that nobody was allowed to tell Naruto the circumstances of his birth, and so up until the start of the story he has led a lonely existence with few close friends or acquaintances. This is where our story takes up. Konohagakure is famed for its Ninja Academy, and our hero wants nothing more than to become the next Hokage, the leader and most powerful ninja in the village. But to do that he has to first graduate from the Academy. Using a special technique learned from a scroll that he was fooled into stealing, Naruto comes to realize the soul his body is containing and the power that resides within him. He shortly after becomes a member of Team 7, a ninja squad assigned to him along with two other young trainees, Haruno Sakura and Uchiha Sasuke and headed by the sensei Hatake Kakashi. The central storyline follows the trials and tribulations of these characters as they grow and develop as ninjas and friends.

4 The Characters
To go through all of the characters in Naruto would be a huge endeavor indeed. Fortunately for us others have already done this. Here we only list what we consider to be the main four characters in the first part of the series. We will discuss each of these characters and then provide links to sources with information on other characters.4.1 Main Characters
| Uzumaki Naruto (Naruto Uzumaki) The main protagonist of the series. In order to become the next Hokage, and in doing so be looked up to and respected by those around him, Naruto is constantly striving to increase his strength and his rank. His exuberant personality and curious sense of humor greatly impacts those around him. Quite immature and often dense, Naruto is a unique character who often surprises the reader or viewer with his odd behaviour and actions. | Haruno Sakura (Sakura Haruno) One of the most loved characters of the series, often among the top 10 in Shonen Jump's popularity polls, Sakura - which means "cherry blossom" in Japanese - is an intelligent and willful character who is dedicated to her friends and to the team. She is the only female member of the Team 7, and is meant to play the heroine role in the story. The earlier stages of the anime explore her infatuation with Sasuke, which often gets in the way of her role in the team. | Uchiha Sasuke (Sasuke Uchiha) Sasuke initially comes across as a cold and withdrawn character who would prefer to work on this own than be held down by a team. Developed as Naruto's main rival, though later becomes his best friend, Sasuke is cool and calm and very attractive to the girls, in particular Sakura. The main tactician in the team, he is always seeking out stronger opponents to develop his strength and ability. | Hatake Kakashi (Kakashi Hatake) Leader of the Team 7 squad and the sensei of Naruto, Sakura and Sasuke, he often takes a very laid back approach to managing the group. While at the start he doesn't appear too attached to the team, over time it becomes clear that he cares deeply for this students and would do anything, even sacrifice his own life, for their safety. We hope that you have enjoyed the first in our series of articles on popular anime. It has been our aim to provide some of these, but most importantly to include links to places that we have found to be a great source of that media. With that said, goodbye, we hope we have satisfied your curiosity! What did you think of this article? Do you have any feedback, any criticisms, praise or suggestions?
