What Are Concert Posters: A Definition

What are concert posters? Concert posters were originally produced soley to advertise musical performances. However, nowadays "concert poster" is a general term refering to basically any poster printed to relate to a specific concert, show, gig or other musical performance or set of performances. Concert posters range from simple block text to bareley readable psychedelic lettering and images. Many concert poster include photos, dates, location, show times and other pertinet information.

While concert posters were originally only produced for advertisement, it soon became clear to promoters, artists and bands that concertgoers were collecting them as a way to remember the events they attended. While many posters were and still are being produced with soley advertising in mind, some enterprising individuals now produce posters which are not meant to advertise but are used soley as commemorative posters to be sold or given away to show goers and collectors. Some of these posters are "mixed-use" or "mulit-purpose" in that they are used to advertise and used for merchandising or given out to patrons. Some of these posters are authorized and commissioned in connection with the event, while others are not.
