Not sure How to get Started?

The most difficult decision about moving or buying in Costa Rica is WHERE?
There are literally thousands of fantastic locations and views.   Many who move here make impulsive decisions they later regret.  ( our "checklist for moving" may help with that one).   A huge number who come here considering buying think of nothing but BEACH and OCEANFRONT.   Why?...because they stayed on the beach for vacation.  ( but, sad to say...over half of the people who buy on the beach end up selling within five years ... read our article about "beachfront living...pros and cons" )

Two years ago... even a year ago, buying here was a lot simpler.   People simply borrowed against the equity on their houses.   That option is gone for many people.   So...will you need a mortgage to buy here...or maybe owner financing?  Take a look at what you can really afford.   It is easier if you are retiring and have a fixed amount of money to spend and a fixed income.   Not so easy for others. There is mortgage money available... ask us for referrals.

Are you buying land or looking for land and a house?   Will you build?   What are your options?  Do you know the size of the house that you want?

Some people KNOW that they want to live near the beach...no matter what.   Some people know that they want acreage where they can grow fruit trees and maybe a horse or two.   Some want small town, rural living and some want to be near moves and Burger King.  Some people prefer a gated community and others prefer solitude. Some prefer the cloud forest and other prefer the steamier rain forest.   While there are huge numbers of choices and in can be confusing...keep in mind that these choices are what makes living in Costa Rica such an adventure. 

We suggest visiting a traveling to different areas to see what suits your needs.    When we were looking, we knew that we needed to be near a hospital...so we drew a circle around San Jose and looked at everything in that circle...and we settled in Grecia.   We are big believers that, not only should a location meet your criteria, but should also "feel right" ( at the risk of sounding too "new age")

Still sound confusing?  Well, even after you are here a while...you will continually see properties and areas that will take your breath away.   Call us and talk...ask questions about what is realistic...does that $50,000 beach home you saw on the internet come with internet?....how safe is the area?...how much will it cost me to build a 3 BR, 1500 sf home near a waterfall in San Ramon?....email, continue to study and read...and ask questions.
