Earning money online through eHow

eHow: the internet's best opportunity for extra income

eHow.com is one of the web's most popular How-To websites. It is also a terrific way to earn money online by contributing content. In my experience, it is both the easiest way to begin earning money online, and the most lucrative. Some eHow writers are earning $2,000 a month, and are seeing their earnings steadily increasing.

eHow.com is a useful collection of (usually brief) How-To articles covering almost every topic imaginable (and a few bordering on the unimaginable).  Each article consists of a series of steps, taking the reader through tasks ranging from simple recipes, to avoiding foreclosure, to improving one's love life.

Articles are created by a small group of eHow staff and experts, and a much larger group of writers who (much like at Knol) contribute what they want, when they want, and as often as they want, as long as they are in keeping with eHow guidelines.

eHow is a popular, highly-trafficked site.  In March 2009, it had an Alexa ranking of 332, that is, the 332nd most popular site on the internet.

Through the eHow Writers' Compensation Program, writers can earn income for their contributions (currently, only those based in the US can participate in the WCP, though eHow intends to expand the program internationally in the future).  Although eHow content is largely text-oriented, it is also possible to include images and videos with an article.

Earnings for individual articles are highly variable.  According to eHow, earnings for a given article depend on a variety of factors, including an article's popularity and the quality of the content.  Over the long term, a writer for eHow typically earns about one dollar a month for every article posted.  Several WCP writers have hundreds of articles to their name, and are earning hundreds of dollars per month (my own payments are more than $1000 per month after nine months of participating in WCP).  The most experienced writers at eHow earn over $2,000 a month and have seen steady increases in their earnings.  Payments are made each month through PayPal.

Assuming that the eHow revenue-sharing model remains intact, the earnings potential at eHow is quite high.  A single article (which typically represents 30-60 minutes of preparation time) can conceivably generate several hundred dollars in income over the space of a few years.  There is no limit on the number of articles an author can contribute.

There are many other web-based opportunities for earning income by providing content to revenue-sharing sites.  From my experience with several of these sites, and the experience of other WCP writers, eHow is far and away the easiest way to begin generating a steady, and steadily growing, stream of revenue.  One of the most prolific writers at eHow, my colleague WriterGig, has written an eBook on how to earn $1,500 a month (or more) at eHow.   Another of the site's star writers, Janet Ford, has also written a book on maximizing your income at eHow

I will be more than happy to answer any questions or respond to comments about eHow, so please let me know your thoughts, below.

eHow - still has alot of problems

Mr. Sarokin, I have been writing for ehow for some 6 months now and while you can make a fair amount of cash on their site, they still have many problems that writers must content with. They will delete your articles without letting you know why or replying when emailed questions. They are trying to clean the site up by raising the standards of the articles they accept, so you have to be sure you understand their rules and have patience with their site. The site is constantly having bug problems like right now I and many others have not been able to even open up the site for the past five days. There have been problems with article links being redirected to site editor's articles, and with the loss of articles when trying to publish them. I would like to keep writing for ehow but if I can't even open the site I don't know if I'm going to be able to. Do you know anything about this current problem and what the folks at ehow have to say about it?

Tyrone@Millionaire Acts

I always see the ehow site especially when you typed the keyword "how to" in google.

Hopefully, they can entertain writers too from other countries and not just in US. If they can entertain it, I will be the first one to apply with them. :)
