TEEN MARKETING 101: Market Yourself for Your Scholarship

Enter College By Playing Your Favorite Sport

College recruiting for sports like football, baseball, basketball and volleyball is tough, find out how you can make it easier for yourself and achieve your goal of making it to college through athletic scholarships.

Many high school teenagers from lower to middle class families depend on a good sport scholarship as well as excellent grades to get them in college.  Since there are many intelligent and hardworking teenagers applying for college every year, each year the college recruitment becomes more and more competitive. High school teenagers are joining more activities than ever in order to become well rounded and be able to competitively compete with other very active teenagers. And, on top of that, they have to worry about college entrance exams, prom, homework, regular exams, and other teenage angst about their very busy high school senior year, future college, and daily life in general.

Nevertheless, high school seniors need to start thinking about their future, getting a good scholarship before their graduation, and moving ahead towards the next step. A good start is to create a recruiting profile in order to market their high school accomplishments and email it to recruiters. Research colleges that match your interests, a possible major that you would like to pursue, a location that you are comfortable with, housing, and what you can actually afford. Start emailing your recruiting profile to the coaches of the colleges that you would like to attend.

Put together a professional highlight video of the teenage athlete to further market him or her to college coaches. You can also create a website with the teenage athlete’s stats and video. And all you have to do next is just email out the link to college coaches in order to check out the teenage athlete in actions as well as the teenager’s grades and activities. Then, eventually, you need to call campuses to make appointments, visit campuses, take campus tours to check out the schools, talk with college advisers of the major that you are interested in, and do lots of internet research until you get in a college and start attending that college. Make your college campus visits during the Fall Term so that you can get free tickets to attend a college game and meet the coaches.

Furthermore, ask your high school coach to help you get noticed by college coaches. High school coaches play an active role in the recruiting process and have the abilities and knowledge to do something positive for their high school athletes. Make sure to make it in “All State” during your sophomore or junior year so that when people from colleges start looking through the Internet for All State lists, you will be on there when they start picking high school undergraduates for their recruiting database.

Make sure college coaches have the link to your website with your recruiting profile and video. Make sure that college coaches get to see you play your sport at a game to show them what you can do so you can impress them. Make sure to go to a free college camp in order to be seen by college coaches in order to make them notice your name and make connections with them. Create profiles on sites like D1Athletes.com in order to continue marketing yourself to college coaches.
