Sclerotherapy

Sclerosant Vein Injections

About Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a procedure commonly used in the elimination of varicose veins and is widely considered to be the most effective treatment for unsightly veins on the legs. Sclerotherapy uses a series of micro-injections of a sclerosant solution directly into the affected vein.  The sclerosant will seal the unhealthy vein, as well as some of the small feeder veins, causing the body to naturally reroute the blood flow to healthier veins. Once the blood has been diverted, the varicose vein will then be broken down and absorbed by the body.

Treatment

The pain is minimal, often described as more uncomfortable than painful and the procedure will generally only take 15 to 20 minutes. For larger varicose veins the practitioner may choose to us ultrasound to image the vein that is to be treated.  This gives a real time view of the vein, helping to insure the best results.

Post Treatment

Post treatment will often require the patient to keep their their legs elevated for short periods of time. While there are sometimes reports of discomfort and pressure in the veins, side effects are very limited.

regarding sclerotherapy

Your saying tx of veins in 15- 20 min's, but if they have a lot of spider veins I can easily use 1 hour. Is that ok or normal?
