Spider Veins

Small Leg and Facial Veins

About Spider Veins

Spider veins can come in many forms. These small, thread-like veins are often red or purple in appearance and appear primarily on the legs and face.

Treating Spider Veins

Spider veins can be treated in a number of ways. Sclerotherapy is commonly used on the veins that appear on the legs while laser or intense pulsed light is used for the face.

Causes

Leg veins can be caused by genetics, hormones, pregnancy, menstruation or even having a job that requires standing for long periods of time. Facial veins can have similar causes but more often is caused by sun exposure or rosacea. The sun can cause extra capillaries to form just under the skin. These capillaries can take the form of spider veins or give the appearance of diffuse redness which is a hallmark of rosacea.
