ComputiVerse

God's Computer Manual At Work

A ComputiVerse (aka computiverse) is any bible verse or two that teaches a simple computing principle. It is a subset of Evangelism Computing.

The Promise:

All too often the bible and its principles are thought to be for people very long ago and far away. The bible has become an antique that sits on the coffee table or dark library shelf only for collecting dust or storing small memorabilia. But ComputiVerses (CVs) are proof the bible is the ultimate ‘how-to’ manual as promised in 2Timothy 3:16, 17 'all good works'.

The Purposes:

  1. Prove the bible and its principles are timeless.
  2. Validate the bible’s claim to be the ultimate ‘how-to’ manual. (2 Timothy 3:16, 17)
  3. Provide guidance for improved computer safety, creativity, efficiency, and God-honoring character-building efforts.
  4. Prove that God has provided cyber cautions and constructs for our keyboarding sessions.

A Few CV Principles:

  1. Advanced Search Engine Tips:  Leviticus 11 demonstrates the use of the words ‘and’, ‘not’, ‘or’ to narrow one's search. The verses were applied to the acceptable foods for the Israelites. The technique was thought to be invented as ‘Boolean Logic’ in the 1800’s. But God says of His word, “You saw it here first.”
  2. Database with a Twist: Mark 8:19 Demonstrates the symmetrical format of a two record database. The interesting thing is that Jesus kept asking his disciples only about the leftovers forcing our attention to them. There is a great deal of rich resources in the ‘leftovers’ of a data cache after all the ‘juicy’ data is reported. The process today is akin to Data Mining.
  3. Power Preparation: Luke 14:28 uses the metaphor of someone building a tower and possible shameful results. To computing it simply shows how important our actions are before we touch the keyboard; our preparation of data, goals, and especially attitudes.
  4. People are Watching Us: Luke 14:29 reminds us that others are watching our attitudes and actions while we spend time in cyber world.
