Hemant, I am surprised by your belief in Intrusion Detection as a technology, during these economic times when the likes of Gartner had written it off years ago. Is this that you have invested (in IDS/IPS) that you believe? I would rather believe to invest in a technology. Just curious about your thoughts on this...
DDoS mitigation is a step beyond IDS or IPS. IDS and IPS look for 'content' in an attack while DDoS mitigation is primarily based on 'intent' recognition. As more and more botnet attacks evolve, the attacks mimic legitimate users. It is therefore necessary to discriminate between human behavior and scripted-bot behavior. This is a new generation of behavior recognition technology which is evolving as the new attacks evolve.
