Burning Man Essential Equipment - by an experienced Burner

A Personal list of must have items

Everyone will tell you to bring food, water and shelter. This covers everything else. Written by an eleven-year veteran Burner.



Personal Equipment List

ESSENTIALS

  • Layered warm clothing for evenings (it may get as cold as 35F)
  • Cool clothing for the daytime (it may exceed 100F)
  • Personal items (toothpaste, toothbrush, hair gel, shampoo, soap, etc.)
  • Any required drugs (prescriptions, etc.)
  • Plenty of sunscreen & lip balm
  • Two pairs of sunglasses
  • Two flashlights or headlamps + spare batteries
  • A wide brim hat
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Personal LED/Glow/Strobe lighting for night (to prevent bikes from hitting you)
  • Burning Man ticket

 

STRONGLY RECOMMENDED

  • Bike (w/ simple combination lock)
  • Camelbak (best way to carry water and gear)
  • Goggles (for dust storms)
  • Dust mask (for dust storms)
  • Moisturizing lotion
  • Pack of earplugs (because sometimes you will need to sleep)
  • Cheap watch
  • Bandanna (for dust storms, sun protection & when soaked, for heat relief)
  • Tevas/sandals (for showers & inside your shelter)
  • Camera and other recording devices in ziplock bags
  • Communications Gear (ie: Motorola FRS/GMRS radios)
  • Toys (squirt guns, etc.)
  • Costumes, musical instruments, props, banners, signs, speeches, poems
  • Music (iPod / mp3 player)
  • Swiss army knife
  • Small backpack
  • Body Art supplies (markers, temp tattoos, etc.)
  • Items to gift or trade with the natives
