Jay Pasachoff

Pasachoff is a professor at Williams College and the author of textbooks and other books about astronomy and other science subjects.


Jay Pasachoff is Field Memorial Professor at Williams and Director of the Hopkins Observatory at Williams College.  During the 2008-2009 academic year, he is on sabbatical as Visiting Associate at Caltech in Pasadena, California.  Pasachoff is Chair of the International Astronomical Union's Working Group on Solar Eclipses, and he has viewed 47 solar eclipses.  He is also retiring president of the IAU's Commission on Education and Development.  He is coauthor of The Cosmos: Astronomy in the New Millennium, a textbook on astronomy for college students, and author of a longer textbook, Astronomy: From the Earth to the Universe.  He is coauthor of Nearest Star: The Surprising Science of Our Sun and of The Solar Corona.  His Peterson Field Guide to the Stars and Planets is widely used by the general public and by the amateur astronomy community.
