Jorge A. Alvarado, MD, received his undergraduate, medical school, specialty, and sub-specialty training at the University of California, in Berkeley and San Francisco. Over 30 years ago, he became the first full-time glaucoma specialist at UCSF. Most recently he has uncovered a cell-to-cell signaling and the cellular and molecular basis for the regulation of aqueous outflow in the eye. This cell signaling mechanism is of great potential for the development of novel glaucoma therapies.
