Red and Green Cone Holiday Tre

This cone shaped tree is remarkably easy to make, and a very attractive addition to our home decor over the holiday season. Naturally, you can make them any size and any color you want, and trim your tree with bling to make it stand out.

How to Make a Cone

Making a cone is easy, but first you must find heavy paper that is large enough to make the size tree you want. The cone in the tree shown above is made from poster board.

You will need to find something to use as a template for drawing your circle. Dinner plates make small trees. for larger tree, you might consider using a large skillet or a pizza pan.

The steps to making a cone:

1. Cut out your circle of poster board, card stock, etc.
2. Fold it in half, creating a half circle.
3. Fold the two ends inward so the sides overlap. This forms a cone, with a point on top and a round shape at the bottom.
4. Using tape of adhesive, affix the cone shape together. Overlap the edges as desired to create the size cone you want.  When glued together, use your hands to round out the cone again.

Add Colored Papers to Form Your Tree

1. Cut colored papers into strips that are perhaps one and a half or two inches long and one inch wide.. You can get good effects by using card stock or scrapbook paper that has different but complimentary colors on both sides.
2. Using a pencil, toothpick or other similar object, curl the bottom of your paper strips upwards so the underside shows.
3. Starting at the bottom, glue the curled strips around and around the cone, overlapping each layer slightly. When you reach the top, pinch one rectangle over the point.
3. Decorate your tree with bling  or leave as is.

Ideas for Adding Decorations (Bling!)

You can use any number of items to decorate your tree. A few suggestions are holiday ribbon, buttons, beads, tinsel, glitter, metallic spray or rubons, stickers, punched flowers or shapes, decorative wires, fiber and just about anything else you can think of.

Another Style: Decorate  a Tree With Punched Shapes

The tree above was made from paper cut into rectangles and curled.Instead, you could use a punch of die cut to create shapes. Attach the shapes as desired. The video demonstration below shows a tree made with punched shapes as well as rectangular strips.
