Clipboard Mini Album for the Holidays

Getting Started

This Holiday craft project is a hand-made mini album attached to a clipboard. The album, made from card stock and containing photographs and journaling, opens up like an accordion. You can make as many pages in the accordion as you want. The dimensions are also your choice and will depend upon the size of the clipboard you use.

These items sell well at craft fairs and bazaars. They also make nice gifts for grandparents, other relatives and perhaps for the teacher.

Supply List

  • 1 clipboard
  • 3 complimentary scrapbook papers. The picture shown uses paper from the Basic Gray collection.
  • Red card stock (amount will depend on the number of pages you want to make in your album)
  • White card stock (amount will depend on the number of photograph blocks you add to your pages
  • Red ribbon or ribbon that coordinates with the papers used
  • Large alphabet stickers spelling the word JOY.  (Alternatively, use alphabet stamps, glaze pen, computer generated letters, die cuts or punched alphabet shapes)
  • Gold Outline sticker that is simply a long, narrow strip. (Alternatively, use narrow strip of gold paper, gold ribbon, a gold glaze pen or anything else that will make a long, gold line).
  • Rubber stamp with black stamping ink or sticker in black, displaying small word such as "believe," "celebrate," "love", etc.

Tools

  • Paper trimmer (optional)

Covering the Clipboard

  1. Cut the paper with the circles and glue it to the bottom two-thirds of the clipboard.
  2. Cut the red scrapbook paper into a size large enough to cover the top of the clipboard.
  3. Affix the red part to the top, placing it as high under the clip as you can. This leaves a strip uncovered on top. Cut a second piece of red, large enough to cover this bare spot. Fit it over top of the clip, and using a sharp craft knife, carefully cut around the edge of the clip. Remove excess paper and glue this red paper in place. The clipboard should now be covered.
  4. Using your gold outline stickers (or narrow strip of gold paper), place overtop of the seam to cover where the two top papers intersect.
  5. Stamp a small word on the top side, using black ink (or use a small, black sticker)

Making the Mini Accordion Album

  1. Cut two or more rectangular pieces of card stock of equal size. These will become the accordion album, so use the clipboard as a guide for the size paper you want. The rectangles will fold in half to form pages. Refer to the video for a folding guide.
  2. With glue or adhesive, affix the rectangular strips together so they open up accordion style. You could choose to have the accordion open downwards, as is shown in the video, or you could open it horizontally.
  3. With white card stock, cut blocks to contain photographs and journaling. Glue these blocks to your mini album.
  4. Decorate the pages of your mini album as desired. Add photographs and journaling at this point if you wish, or do that later.
  5. Cut a rectanglular shape of a complimentary color of scrapbook paper, and attach this to the front of the album, centering it.
  6. Cut a rectangular strip of red card stock. Position it on top of the scrapbook. In the picture, this is the paper with the holly pattern.
  7. Affix the letters spelling JOY down the front of the album.

Attach the Mini Album to the Clipboard

  1. All that remains is to cut ribbon long enough to run underneath the mini album and extend around to the top where you tie it in a bow.
  2. Using tape or adhesive, affix the ribbon to the underside of the mini album, centering it as shown in the picture.
  3. Glue or tape the entire album to the clipboard.
  4. Tie the ribbons.
