Soundscape Monitoring

Mount Rainier National Park

Soundscape Monitors help collect data for research on natural and human-generated sounds throughout Mount Rainier National Park.

Welcome, Soundscape Monitors! We've set up an interactive Google map where, if you're signed up as a Soundscape Monitor, you'll be able to update the map with your own plans and comments. Here's how:

  1. If you haven't yet received an invitation to collaborate, contact Dan Rowlands, the project coordinator, and he will send you an invitation via your e-mail.
  2. If you don't have one already, you will be prompted to create a free Google account.
  3. Go to the Interactive Google Map page and sign in.
  4. Click on the "Collaborate" link.
  5. Click on any link from the list on the left-hand side, or any marker on the map, to open an edit window.
  6. If you're planning to visit a site, enter the date you anticipate being there, and your name. If you've already been to a site, update the number of times the site has been visited, and add any comments that might be helpful to future soundscape monitors at that site.
