Introduction
Knol allows you to set up Google Analytics tracking for your knols. If you'd prefer to use a Guide prepared as a Knol, see Peter Baskerville's Step by Step Knol Analytics Guide. To set it up our way, follow these steps:
- If you do not have a Google Analytics account yet, sign up for one:
- Visit Analytics and click on the Sign Up Now button.
- For Website's URL, type knol.google.com.
- Provide an account name, for example My Knols.
- Specify your time zone and contact information.
- Note down the tracking code. This is the code in the form UA-1234567-1, in the line:
var pageTracker = _gat._getTracker("UA-1234567-1");
The code will also be shown in your Website Profiles list.
- If you already have a Google Analytics account, click Add Website Profile on the Overview page and repeat steps 1.2 through 1.5 above.
- On Knol, make sure you are signed in and visit your Preferences page (In the upper right corner, place your mouse cursor over My Profile and click Preferences.
- In the Analytics tab, type the tracking code noted in step 1.5, for example: UA-1234567-1
- After up to 24 hours, tracking data for your knols will start showing up in Analytics.

You can also link your Google Adsense account to your Google Analytics account and receive reports on Adsense performance in knol!
The Google Analytics Blog announcement on this feature has detailed instructions on how to link these two accounts together: http://analytics.blogspot.com/2009/04/analytics-and-adsense-together-at-last.html

FAQS about Knol Google Analytics
I just turned on Google Analytics, when will I see any results for my knols?
It will take about 24 hours for your account to begin showing results.
Hows does this work with knols with multiple owners or authors?
Statistics are gathered only for the first owner of a knol. Additional owners or authors beyond the first will not see traffic for those shared pages in their Google Analytics accounts.
But, no one is visiting my knols!
New authors may take some time before their knols begin to be discovered by others. Be sure to write high quality pages that follow knol best practices. Look at what other successful knol authors or bloggers have done to promote their work, and consider what you might do. See, for example, here.

Analytics
From my side I can see that your pages are getting views that are visible in Google Analytics, and we are generating Analytics tracking codes for your account. Based on your description, I cannot tell what is going wrong.
When you log into www.google.com/analy
When you visit that report, do you see any statistics at all?
Did you verify that the tracking number from analytics was entered into knol correctly?

Update on Analytics
So, is it possible to publish somewhere a entire Knol Site analytics or if that is too commercially sensitive, maybe some key ones that provide a benchmark for Knol Authors to compare their work?
We can consider your request, but this will probably not be a high priority for a while.

Not working
We see that your pages do contain a personal tracking number. It takes about 24 hours from the time you add Analytics to your knols before you start seeing results.
Are you able to log into Google Analytics at all? Does it show knol.google.com as one of the reports available to your account?

New Visits metric on Analytics a strange result?
http://knol.google.c
It shows a value of 5.57% of new visits on the summary for my Knols yet 77% on the details inside. 77% seems to be closer to the previous benchmark norm of 76% until the apparent invasion of Knollers who have since brought the benchmark for this metric down to around 6% in the past few days. Maybe it needs to be checked.
We will investigate whether we can spot anything amiss with this account. Thanks!

So, you've stumbled across a known Google Analytics bug. The team expects to be deploying an update to Google Analytics that corrects this, within about two weeks.
This "New Visits" metric is inaccurate when it appears in the "scorecard" area of the table -- but in the meantime you can go to the New vs Returning report and get accurate numbers for overall visitors.
