Hello. I have a problem with one of my knols. In particular, my knol titled "Religion and Science unification - Towards Religional Science" (http://knol.google.com/k/spiros-kakos/religion-and-science-unification/2jszrulazj6wq/2) does not open. The page simply does not show itself when I attempt to open it. Is this a temporary problem or something else? Thanks in advance.
We really are not able to reproduce the observed problem with this knol. We've tried looking at it in a few different browser types, but everything looks good to us. Can you reply with the name of the browser that you're using?

Everything is fine with the Knol now, thanks! I had posted the bug in another of your Knol Help pages (at http://knol.google.com/k/-/-/si57lahl1w25/203#comment-si57lahl1w25.uksftl). You responded me that everything was fixed and that it was a temporary error. It was my mistake to post the same bug in more than one pages. I did it because you stated that you no longer use the "Knol Bugs" page and was confused on what page to use to report the problem. Sorry about that. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the reply. My knol reappeared after a few hours.
Are the pageview counters working?
Because some knols dont show any pageviews despite viewing them. My knol shows 11 views for the last 2 days despite more than a dozen friends viewing it more than once.
I created an extensive knol and i clicked on PUBLISH. And now its suddenly missing from my account. There no sign of anything. i have not put any offensive content. What happened to my Knol?
If the knol is not accepted for publication, then it should be indicated so that I can delete and put it up on wiki or some other site.
It is quite irritating to spend many days creating an article and then seeing it disappear from the account without a trace. I didnt even make a copy for myself.
It can be found in search results using the "Search Toolkit" and within the "How To" contest entries, but is not yet available searching on the knol.google.com or google.com home pages. It should eventually be indexed and be more broadly available.
At present Knols are horribly disconnected between themselves. You need to have an easy fonctionality like Wikipedia through which a word in a Knol can just be clicked to access the list of knol articles on the subject. For example, clicking "Alexander the Great" in a knol should automatically open the list of available articles on Alexander the Great (ranked by quality). To make a word clickable, the knol creator should just have to highlight the word and click "Knol" on the toolbar, so that the word becomes permanently bolded/underlined (or red if no knol corresponds) to let everybody know that there is more information there. This is absolutely necessary!! Best regards.
I think I'm rapidly going to become a serious nightmare for Google Developers.
Now - I've been "told" that my manner/handling of this sort of thing... well, Sucks - majorly. So instead, I'm going to try to do this softly, gently, diplomatically, with a touch of tact and attempt to avoid all sarcasm and unpleasantness.
Please - disable JavaScript in your browser. Try to create a Knol. See the problem? Thats a pretty big one straight away. You are excluding and denying a fair number of people there. You are also in breach of various regulations/guidelines and dare I say laws regarding Discrimination and Human Rights.
Following from that... please view a Knol - such as this one. Please try to make a Comment. The problem here being that as far as I can discern - there is not link to make a comment. At all.
So, lets look at the existing comments. Do not try to click - just hover over the various links - such as "Report abusive comment"... Try to Add or Subtract a rating to a user comment... Try replying to a comment... They all appear to be JavaScript based links. Thats no good to some people.
I'm going to phrase this rather heavy-handedly... as at least that way I know the point is made, and that it should get looked at by those who should see it.
At present, it could easily be taken that Google is more than happy to intentionally and willing exclude certain people from usage of "open access" features.
That is discrimination. It is not only unfair, unpleasant and unhelpful - it is also illegal.
There is no excuse.
Please follow the basic development practices advised throughout the Net, for more than a few years, for free, on how to build sites for all users/people. Ensure basic site functionality - before - adding additional/fancy/enhanced functions through the use of JS based features.

LOL You know - that realy doesn't suprise me in the slightest. From what I'm recently experiencing with Google - it really doesn't seem to care in the slightest about those with particular needs/requirements.
Not only does it not mind excluding certain members of the public/internet from certain public applications/services, it seems to think that such discrimination is actually acceptable.
Just for a quick check... does WAI not ring a bell? How about things like 504, 508 and ADA - do those not mean anything to Google? Google is above having to conform to the regulations, rules, guidelines or laws that others are meant to adhere to?
No, no - please, no need to reply. I'm pretty certain this will go down quite nicely all across the internet.
Just one last question... how deep are Googles pockets......?
Roger, you're an idiot. You have no "right" to access anything on the internet. Google is providing a free service, and if you don't like the way they do it, go some place else. There is no law saying Google has to provide access to people who disable javascript, you'd have to be incredibly dumb to seriously believe that.
I'd go on and break apart what you're saying point by point, but it's not worth it. You're wrong, get over it.
You open your comment by making a personal attack and sling an insult in the very first line? Rather than focusing on the issue raised, you would rather pick a fight with someone? Thats your personal choice - and says an awful lot.
Note I'm not disagreeing with you - I am very much an idiot! I have pointed this, and several other such issues out to people/groups such as the WAI, RNIB and several noted individuals - and no one has said/done a thing. A simple, single rallying point - something that would gain attention, would gain popularity and get accessibility to the fore... and nothing. Google is not intentionally discriminating, (well, one hopes not) - it's just being careless and thoughtless - like so many other companies/businesses.
What is most disturbing is the hypocrisy. Google has been known before to make comments about people ensuring accessibility, following basic standards for the internet and providing access to those with certain needs. Then ignore their own suggestions/advice, and build systems that are JS reliant and exclude certain user types.
As to the legal aspect - I never made mention of disabling Javascript being an issue. I instead refer to a number of Alternative and Assistive Technologies that do not support JS, whose users will be unable to make use of "this service" and several others. I may be incorrect on them not being 100% illegal - depending on the viewpoint you take (only a court of law could actually prove/disprove it). But none-the-less - as listed above, there are multiple references to/for compliance.
As to the Free Service argument... think of this... you create toys and give them away. If those toys are dangerous and harmful - you will be taken to court! You can produce free food - if it does not comply with certain regulations, it will be taken away and you will be prevented from giving it away (or selling it). That is how things go. Apart from our industries - online people can do pretty much as they please - including harming others and causing additional problems.
Am I to assume that you do not support equal rights, that you discriminate against those with certain disadvantages, that you feel superior and enjoy such a belief over certain others? Of course not (or at least I hope not!). So why not support it instead? You do not have to take the same tact that I have - but surely you see that such lack of basic functionality results in discrimination (be it accidental, inadvertent or intentional - it results discrimination!).
I'm having a problem verifying my name. I get an error no matter what method or details I use to verify with. I've tried all of the following but still get an error every time.
Type: Method #1 (Phone) Notes: Used cell phone number. Error: We encountered the following problem: Error: cannot find your name and number in the directory.
Type: Method #1 (Phone) Notes: Used land line number. Error: We encountered the following problem: Error: cannot find your name and number in the directory.
Type: Method #2 (Credit Card) Notes: Used a non-Debit and non-American Express card Error: We encountered the following problem: Error: please try later.
We are looking at the credit card system right now. I will let you know as soon as I get more information.
We do not have access to all the phone directories, some phone providers do not share the directory data. Who is your phone provider? This is one reason, some of our users cannot be verified using the phone.
For privacy reason, I cannot see what was submitted or rejected. However, I see few users were successful with phone verification today morning.
thanks for reporting the problem and trying knol name verification,
It happened again today. I am using Firefox 3.0.5 on a Mac. I am trying to add references from a list I pasted into the knol at the bottom of my knol using your system (i.e. "create new reference" , paste in the reference, etc). It works for the first reference, but I can add a second one only after I have saved the knol and opened it again. i.e., for the 16 references I added in a new knol today (Das Plankton-Paradox) I had to reopen the knol 15 times.
It would be helpful if you might provide additional details to help us try to reproduce your problem. Is there a specific sequence of events that consistently causes the freeze? Does the freeze affect just the current browser window, or all browser windows?
What browser brand & version are you using? What reference text, url, etc. are you trying to add?

Hi, I'm using the "Insert Link" button inside the knol editor. The exact text of the pdf file is: A gestão dos recursos hídricos em Unaí-MG: os usos múltiplos das águas e suas implicações sócio-ambientais.pdf When I select the pdf file to be added on knol article, this message appear: The Url you entered is not supported.
Why not let authors control the the Related Knols function by themself?
the Related Knols function is NOT enough perfect, the Related Knols links are usually irrelevant to my knols, even they are ugly to me as the knol's author, especially to the non-english knols. Why not let authors control the the Related Knols function by themself? Let the knol's author to decide to open or close the Related Knols function, I think this is a better user experience.
毛贻军, some form of author control over Releated Knols has been our to-do list for some time. I will see if we can bump up the priority of this.
Specifically we are thinking to build this on our existing functionality. For example, if you as an author give a 1-star or "block" another author, that person's pages will drop out of your Related Knols. The exact details when we actually implement this may differ.

thanks! btw,I wish the latex parser or equivalent has been your to-do list for some time too:) though the commercial value of pure scientific knols is smaller than medical knols:)

Knol missing after clicking on 'PUBLISH'
If the knol is not accepted for publication, then it should be indicated so that I can delete and put it up on wiki or some other site.
It is quite irritating to spend many days creating an article and then seeing it disappear from the account without a trace. I didnt even make a copy for myself.
Is this a bug or correct move?
Sorry for any confusion or disappointment. When a knol is first published there is an indexing delay, and it may not be immediately findable.
I do see that you have a published knol here: "How to save somebody's life" here:
http://knol.google.c
It is visible on your profile page, here:
http://knol.google.c
It can be found in search results using the "Search Toolkit" and within the "How To" contest entries, but is not yet available searching on the knol.google.com or google.com home pages. It should eventually be indexed and be more broadly available.
We have an explanation of when & how published knols become visible, here:
http://knol.google.c

PLEASE INTERCONNECT KNOLS!!!
Thank you for the feedback.
We actually have a function similar to a part of what you are suggesting. It is just not widely used.
You can select a phrase within the knol editor, then click the "Link" button, then a dialog comes up showing you the highest ranked knols for that.
We certainly could do more to prompt authors to add links, or give other ways to facilitate or automate linking.

Problem inserting PDF file from Docs on knol.
Is it a known problem? Wait an answer.
Thanks
Can you clarify the exact steps you were taking?
1) were you using the "Insert Link" button inside the knol editor? If so, what is the exact text of the URL you used to identify the document.
2) or, were you using the "Import" feature, described here:
http://knol.google.c
If you tried to import a document at that failed, you could email to knolhelp@google.com the pdf document as an attachment.
