THE GLOBAL WARMING PROBLEM

Yes, global warming is real.
Global warming has virtual scientific consensus, although there are plenty of detractors who mis-inform and mis-direct to allege the consensus doesn't exist.

THE ADS ON THIS PAGE SPONSORED BY GOOGLE THAT ARE PROBABLY ALLEGING GLOBAL WARMING DOESN'T EXIST! THEY ARE NOT VALID!
 Ten Years After
"The hot air and cold facts that show we’ve wasted a decade since the Kyoto global warming conference."  - A great summary localized for Oregon

According to Wikipedia, Global warming is the increase in the average measured temperature of the Earth's near-surface air and oceans since the mid-20th century, and its projected continuation.

The average global air temperature near the Earth's surface increased 0.74 ± 0.18 °C (1.33 ± 0.32 °F) during the 100 years ending in 2005. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) concludes "most of the observed increase in globally averaged temperatures since the mid-twentieth century is very likely due to the observed increase in anthropogenic (man-made) greenhouse gas concentrations" via an enhanced greenhouse effect. Natural phenomena such as solar variation combined with volcanoes probably had a small warming effect from pre-industrial times to 1950 and a small cooling effect from 1950 onward.

Wikipedia also summarizes the Global Warming Controversy nicely in an extensive discussion.  The majority of climate scientists agree that global warming is primarily caused by human activities such as fossil fuel burning and deforestation. The conclusion that global warming is mainly caused by human activity and will continue if greenhouse gas emissions are not reduced has been endorsed by at least 30 scientific societies and academies of science, including all of the national academies of science of the major industrialized countries.

GORE's CHALLENGE

In his speech of July 17 to the Alliance for Climate Protection, Gore said,
“Today I challenge our nation to commit to producing 100 percent of our electricity from renewable energy and truly clean carbon-free sources within 10 years.”

ADVERTISING!

Seconds after I created this KNOL, AdSense ads placed anti-global-warming ads on this page (They choose ads to place here, I get kickback for exposing the public to them.)  If these ads found their way to this KNOL, Imagine how much more they find their way into top internet positions, like google search results.  We're not going to create public advocacy for global warming without a MASSIVE PAID GLOBAL WARMING AD CAMPAIGN!  Advertising DOES sell, so we need mega-charities like Gates Foundation to SUBSIDIZE EXTENSIVE GLOBAL WARMING ADVERTISING - endorsed, of course, by top scientists.

ALCOHOL

Ethanol fuel in Brazil now accounts for 50% of their motor vehicle fuel.  This is a model worth emulating.

ALGAE

Algae creates biofuel while consuming carbon dioxide (greenhouse gases). Simple to grow, doesn't compete for agricultural space.

ENERGY PRODUCTION BOARD

As founder and chief scientist of the Rocky Mountain Institute, Amory Lovins put it in an interview with Charlie Rose on July 15:  “I don’t think that an Apollo or a Manhattan style crash program is what we need. We have plenty of technology to solve this problem cost effectively; we need to apply it.”
"In January of 1942 President Roosevelt called into his office a former executive of Sears Roebuck named Donald Nelson. Roosevelt asked Nelson how he liked the name “War Production Board.” He liked it, replied Nelson.  ... in January of 2009 I would like to see President Obama invite Al Gore into the Oval Office and ask, “How do you like the sound of 'Energy production Board?'”

EAT CHICKEN

Beef creates some 18% of greenhouse gases (about 6% in the U.S. alone).  Go vegetarian or eat chicken a recent NPR article suggests.  Eating chicken may decrease greenhouse gases more than going veggie according to a recent Salon article. "Over 70 percent of the Amazon's deforested land is used for pasture, and a substantial part of the remaining land is used for feed crops. Much of the world's arable land is devoted to animal feed."  Because vegetarians consume dairy, they rely on those cattle.  "Still, chickens are such efficient producers of protein that a study in the science journal Earth Interactions finds that Americans who eat poultry, dairy and eggs, but not red meat, are responsible for fewer greenhouse gases than those who consume a vegetarian diet that includes dairy and eggs."

TOM FRIEDMAN ON HOT, FLAT, AND CROWDED  - transforming our economy to energy self-sufficiency as the next big win - making america stronger.  "Friedman proposes that an ambitious national strategy—which he calls "Geo-Greenism"—is not only what we need to save the planet from overheating; it is what we need to make America healthier, richer, more innovative, more productive, and more secure."  See Friedman's web site

diatribe!

When you start out like you do about mis-information and mis-direction, you impugn your own diatribe.
