| Numismatic News Cover |
Numismatic News was founded in 1952 by Chet Krause as a vehicle through which collectors outside of the big cities could trade among themselves by mail. It evolved into a weekly newspaper and is published by Krause Publications of Iola, Wis., a wholly owned subsidiary of F+W Media.
Today Numismatic News serves the needs of collectors of U.S. coins and is part of a family of five periodicals that serve all aspects of numismatic collecting. It has a monthly sister newspaper called World Coin News to serve the needs of collectors of foreign coins. Another monthly sister newspaper called Bank Note Reporter serves the needs of collectors of U.S. and world paper money. A monthly magazine called Coins Magazine is available on newsstands or by subscription and serves as a general interest numismatic publication. Coin Prices is a magazine price guide for U.S. coins published six times each year.
Its presence extends online to www.NumismaticNews.Net. There readers find news, features and blogs by coin experts.

A more extensive price guide can be found on the www.NumisMaster.com Web site. These prices are available in more grades and they are frequently updated. Also included are news stories and blogs.
A weekly Numismatic eNewsletter rounds out the Numismatic News family of products.
Every week Numismatic News tries to fulfill its basic mission: to tell collectors what something is, what it is worth and how to buy (or sell) one. This is done by news stories that report new issues, auctions, legislative matters and on anything or anyone affecting U.S. coin collecting.
The paper has a popular weekly column of questions and answers called Coin Clinic written by the award-winning writer Alan Herbert. Another frequently asked about feature is Mint Statistics, which publishes current Mint sales figures. This helps let collectors know what is currently available, but more importantly, gives them an idea of potential rarity through the numbers.
Historical features tell the many stories of U.S. coinage since the Mint was founded in 1792 to the present day. Punchy half-page Items of the Week tell the tale of individual coins. Ken Potter keeps readers apprized of the many error coins that are found by average collectors.
Numismatic News sponsors the MidAmerica Coin Expo in Schaumburg, Ill.
