Sarah Palin

Sarah Palin is the governor of Alaska, and was recently chosen as Vice President nominee for the Republican Party, in the 2008 United States presidential election, by John McCain.

Biography so Far

Palin served as mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, from 1996 to 2002; prior to this, she was a member of the city council from 1992 to 1996. She chaired the Alaska Oil & Gas Conservation Commission in 2003-2004 after failing to become the governor in the 2002 campaign.

In November 2006, Palin was elected governor of Alaska, and thus became the first woman governor & youngest governor in Alaskan history; the 29th of August 2008, John McCain announced that he had chosen her as his running mate. She was nominated at the Republican National Convention that took place in Saint Paul in Minnesota, and she is the first Republican woman to run for Vice Presidence.

Sarah Palin has five children, one of them, Track, 19, has just left to serve in Iraq.

Political Views

Sarah Palin was chosen by the Republican Party because of her strong conservative values; in fact:

  • She is against abortion, even in case of rape or incest
  • She is a lifetime member of the NRA
  • She thinks young people shouldn't have sexual intercourse before their get married
  • She wants creationism to be taught in science classes

Weaknesses & Controversies

Only three days after Sarah Palin was chosen by the Republican Party & John McCain, bad news started to appear:

  • She had to admit that her daughter Bristol, 17, was five months pregnant
  • She is blamed for links she used to have with the Alaska Independance Party, back in the early ninetees. Her husband himself used to belong to this Party..
  • She is in favor of drilling oil wells in a nature reserve in the Arctic
  • And more generally, Sarah Palin lacks experience of politics; she served as mayor of a small town for six years, and she is the governor of Alaska - a state where only 700,000 people live - since less than two years; last but not least, she has a passport since only one year...

creationism

Creationism mustn't be taught at school! It hasn't any scientific support. In Europe a similar idea it isn't considered at all! Sarah wants to turn a democracy as USA in a theocracy! :-)

spell-check

Iraq is not spelled Irak - hard to take this page seriously with that big a gaffe.

suggested link: Palin on issues: http://www.ontheissues.org/Sarah_Palin.htm

Believes she has foreign policy experience because she LIVES NEAR RUSSIA. "Our neighbors are foreign countries" & because "Putin FLIES OVER her state"! Listen/watch to her try to explain that to Katie Couric: http://www.stopthinkvote.com/whatsnew/palinrussiacouric.html

Another summary, put together by issue: http://thinkprogress.org/palin-digest/ -doesnt' know what the Bush Doctrine is. Hasn't "given the war in iraq much thought". Anti-gay marriage. Opposed hate-crime laws.

Opposes abortion, even if rape. Does NOT believe in Global Warming. Wants Creationism taught. Called the war in Iraq a "task from God".

Being investigated for firing someone who wouldn't fire someone else she didn't like "troopergate"

her administration in February sent Stevens a 70-page memo asking for $200 million in earmarks. And, as mayor of Wasilla, she hired a lobbying firm & got $27 million in earmarks for a town of 6,500 residents
