1 Discuss the importance of the following FIVE concepts to our understanding of the dynamics of
occupational safety and health, illustrating your answer with pertinent examples:
(a) Domino Theory (b) Unsafe Conditions (c) Accident Proneness
(d) Notification Procedures (e) Personal Protective Clothing.
2 Critically discuss the supervisor's role in safety and health training, and in broader concerns about
accident reduction and prevention.
3 Briefly discuss the contributions of the following to safety and health management at the enterprise
level: training in safety record keeping, checklist of unsafe acts, industrial hygiene training, and
occupational safety and health planning.
4 Discuss the main provisions of Kenya's Factories Act, with particular reference to occupational safety
and health; and suggest amendments to those provisions in line with emerging values and concerns.
5 Identify the most important potential sources of individual stress at the work place, and show how the
organization can detect stress and help the individual concerned to cope with them.
6 Critically discuss the theory of externalities, showing how you would apply it to community safety
and health situations in Kenya.

and local availability of specific personal protective equipment and/or devices related to: eye and
face protection, respiratory protection and hearing protection.
3 Briefly discuss the contributions of the following to safety management at the enterprise level:
Facility/plant housekeeping checklist, safety training, safety and health policies, and the
organizational structure.
4 Critically discuss the most important practical aspects of hazard/accident prevention and response
at the enterprise level, with particular reference to the Kenyan experience.
5 What do you consider to be the most important training needs in Kenya today, in terms of
recognizing and responding to both unsafe practices and unsafe conditions at the workplace?
6 Critically discuss the significance of the following to occupational safety and health:
(a) Stress management (b) The regulatory regime.
