Knol Author Recruitment - Double the Number of Knol Authors

A Goal of Knol Campaign

Knol author number crossed 15,000.
Do you know how many blog authors are there in USA?
Current knol authors can plan for recruiting one more knol author in the quarter April to June 2009 and double the number of knol authors by the end of first year of knol platform operations.

How many knol authors are there? We do not have official figures. It will be good if knol management publishes these figures periodically. Estimates of authors range from 15,000 to 25,000.
The scope to increase knol authors  is tremendous
 
Now knol platform is getting visitors. All search engines are sending visitors to knols. I have 1700 knols existing at the moment. According to knol page view count, I am getting 26,000 per week or 3500 page views per day. An acceptable number of page views  on knol. On wikipedia also, the average number is two per day. But remember,  there is extensive hyper linking in wikipedia. Because knol writers are distinct individuals hyper linking is much less in Knol. Becuase, there is no editing feature, formatting and content style are different. Hence one page view per knol per day may be the appropriate target. Knol has reached that target.
 
From now onwards, success of knols depends on the knols written. To write more knols we need more knol authors. Existing authors can contribute to success of knol by putting efforts to recruit more knol authors.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Find out Who Else Can Write Knols and Encourage Them to Become Authors on Knol 

 
KNOL is part of  social media. The success of knol platform as an open online publishing platform will be measured by the number of knol authors who are contributing to the platform, the number of knols, the number of high quality knols, the number of visitors and number of page views.
 
All these success parameters of knol have a relation to the number of knol authors. If knol authors increase, number of knols will go up, number of high quality knols will go up, and this in turn will result in new visitors coming to the knol as they get more diversity of information.
 

Can Existing Authors Do Something to Increase New Knol Authors?

 
I think existing authors who are happy with the knol platform can certainly do something about increasing the number of new knol authors. If each of us commit to recruiting one more knol author during a quarter,  the number of knol authors will double.
 
That will be a good boost to the knol platform. That will also clearly bring out the involvment of knol authors in making the platform strong. The task may not be difficult as there is sufficient time to identify persons in the circle of influence and informing them about the need for online publishing and advantages that knol platform provides for online publishing. Such an activity can increase interest in your circle of influence and make more people aware of your presence on knol.
 
Awareness increases demand for a product and the demand results in sales. Any activity on the part of a knol author to increase awareness of knol platform, directly leads to more visitors and page views for his knols.
 
Role of Awareness in New Product Marketing
 

New products have to go through an innovation diffusion process. Rogers defines the innovation diffusion process as “the spread of a new idea from its source of invention or creation to its ultimate users or adopters.”

Awareness - Interest - Evaluation - Trial - Adoption

 New product marketer has to aim his effort at facilitating the movement of consumer who is an adopter of new product  through the five stages. So new product marketers have to create awareness first. Knol authors have to take some steps to increase awareness about knol. The effort to persuade some friends to become knol authors could be one way of increasing awareness about knol and your involvement. This will increase adoption of knol for both writing and reading.

 

Can We do it?

 
Yes. I encouraged and so far 30 persons to join the knol platform and some of them are contributing a lot to the platform. One author among them encouraged 200 students to become knol authors. People will listen to you and join the platform. There is a need for information and there is a need for expression and doing some socially useful work. You are helping them by encouraging to become knol authors. Some of them may become very popular authors later on and they will remember you for introducing them to the knol platform. May be to writing itself.

Today a search of blogger profiles showed that there are 18,400,000 blog authors in USA alone. How many of them can become knol authors? All. Why not.

Knol is good for collaborative writing. Can't they think of a topic on which they will be happy to have collaborative writing. They can. 

We can encourage them.

Why Recruit More Authors? Is There Something in it For Me?

 
Yes, there is something in it for  every author. The value of your knol goes up due to network effect. As more authors are there, more areas will be covered and more visitors will come due to diversity. As more visitors come to the platform, more visitors will come to your knol.

आपका गूगल एकाउंट तो होगा ही। केनॉल में लॉग आन करें और किसी भी विषय पर लिखना शुरू करें और नियमित लिखें। ध्यान रहे कि जो भी लिखें, वह लोगों के लिए काम की चीज हो, तभी लोग उसे पढ़ेंगे और अपनी प्रतिक्रिया देंगे। अगर आप किसी के खिलाफ उल्टी-सीधी बातें लिखेंगे तो उसे इस सार्वजनिक मंच पर पसंद नहीं किया जाएगा।

Why you are forcing knol growth?

I couldn't understand why you are trying to promote knol forcefully. If knol is having good articles then it will grow automatically then again more Authors will come to give more Good Aritilces and it will go in cycles. It needs only initiation. I hope Google has given that initiation. I don't think this unnecessary knol author promotion steps will add any value to knol platform.

I am enthusiastic about the growth of this activity. I have already shared information about knol writing with many of my friends and qcquintances. People do read and appreciate the usefulness of the writings. However, writing a knol is another ball game altogether. It requires knowledge, creativity, initiative and motivation. I keep spreading the word. Hopefully somebody will take the initiative.

I appreciate your efforts in recruitng more authors.
