Since generations Kodomillet (Paspalum scrobiculatum), popularly known as Kodo, is in use as medicine for Type II Diabetes. Due to introduction of high yielding varieties of rice and other crops, area under cultivation of Kodo decreased earlier but now as patients having Type II diabetes are increasing, more and more farmers are taking interest in cultivation of this traditional crop. Farmers aware of its demand for disease management are getting good price for produce. In general, natives living in urban areas consume cooked Kodo seeds as food. They believe that it will help in managing Type II Diabetes. They consume it daily or many times once in a week, along with modern medicines. Most of the users complaint that they are not getting the effects mentioned in ancient Indian literatures related to different systems of medicine. They are not wrong. The Traditional Healers of Indian state Chhattisgarh have answer for this question. According to them the use of Kodo as medicine is not so simple. From selection of medicinally rich seeds for growing Kodo as crop to method of cultivation specially use of Traditional Allelopathic Knowledge, play important role in getting special seeds that can be used for treatment of not only Type II Diabetes but also treatment of over 80 diseases. Through Ethnobotanical surveys conducted in different parts of Indian state Chhattisgarh and neighboring states, information on over 200 methods of Kodo cultivation has been collected so far. Kodo grown in forest areas having specific trees in surroundings helps in getting Kodo seeds with desired properties. In general, farmers grow it for quantity. They use many chemical inputs and in this way knowingly or unknowingly, it affects medicinal properties of Kodo. This Kodo reaches to Diabetic patients in Indian metros and other cities. This is one of the reasons that patients are not getting desired effects.
The Traditional Healers of Indian state Chhattisgarh suggest the patients having Type II Diabetes with other modern diseases to consume Kodo with different types of Medicinal Rice. Although for every patient, Healers suggest different schedules but through tedious interactions with them I have prepared 30 to 500 days schedules (having 18,000 formulations) based on combinations of medicinally enriched Kodo, different Medicinal Rice and herbs. In this chapter, I am describing it in detail along with small films and pictures for the ease of readers. Also, I have tried to add information on use of Kodo along with other medicinal herbs in treatment of different types of Cancer, Heart disease, Sickle Cell Anaemia, Skin diseases etc..
