How To Become A Model

What is a model?



A model is a person who poses or displays for purposes of art, fashion, commerical products.

There are many different types of models including:

1) Fashion Models
2) Commercial Models
3) Male Models
4) Child Models
5) Plus Size Models
6) Petite Models

Typically a fashion model, editorial or runway model will be between the heights of 5’8 to 5’11 for females and 6’ to 6’2 for male models.

For models who would like to model in teen or junior market the heights can go to 5’7 for females and 5’10 for males. This also depends on the look of the models.

Junior models will work in the areas of magazines, catalogs, runway shows. The most important thing for a junior model to know is to be your self and have fun in front of the camera.

To get started in the modeling industry a model needs to have the drive and ambition to become a model. Modeling is hard work and the model must understand that modeling should be looked at as any other job.

 

 

1)      be prepared for photo shoots and booking assignments

2)      show up on time

3)      have a great attitude

4)       learn all that you can about the industry

5)      Practice moving in front of the camera, learn how to work your expressions and body
 
 
 
A model needs to know that not everyone in the business is your friend or out to help you. Be careful who
you come in contact with. Never go to an interview or audition alone always take a parent if underage.
 
We do not recommend freelance modeling, always work with a legitimate modeling or talent agency.
 
You do not need professional photographs to begin in modeling, you can have some snapshots taken and send those to the legitmate modeling agencies.
 
1) your photographs should be clear not fuzzy
2) no one else should be in your photographs
3) have one clear natural headshot
4) have one clear full length shot
5) one good smile shot

You should never pay an agency for modeling photographs modeling and talent agencies make their money from commissions on bookings that they get for the model. They are never paid for photography fees.

If you are a parent of a new model know that 80% of the work will be by you as a parent, to shield your child from not becoming to much a part of the industry. Taking your teen or child to auditions, castings, finding the right people to work with including your agency that you decide on.
 
Test with your child in front of the camera to make sure that they like posing and having their photo taken, test before you have any professional photos taken of your child.
 
Child Models have to have a great personality, like being in front of the camera, take direction well, can be patient sometimes during photography shoots their can be a lot of waiting around between shots. Be happy with a great attitude.
