The Challenger SRT8 is equipped with a Chrysler 6.1 liter  eight-cylinder engine that utilizes 16 valves.  The HEMI engine is mated to a Chrysler 5-speed Transmission.  This configuration has proven to be a successful design for Dodge.

Steering control is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The Challenger comes equipped with power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support.  The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc.   The car uses coil front springs and coil in the rear.

Fuel Efficiency

The fuel system for the 2008 Challenger is a SFI system, running on gasoline .  The fuel is controlled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design.  The 19.00-gallon tank provides the fuel storage for longer trips.

The 2008 Challenger gets 18 miles/gallon on the highway and only 13 in the city.  This is subpar for a coupe car.  But this must be taken in context.  Like the Porsche 911 the Challenger is a car with a purpose.  And that purpose ain't running groceries.
