Too often I have potential customers calling up and asking can we build them a website with a high page rank? People seem to be obsessed with being on the top 10 of a search engine or ranked number one. My first question to them is would you rather have a high page rank or a site that converts to phone calls or internet sales? Just because your website makes it to the top 10 or even number one for your targeted keyword does not mean anything if sales do not happen or the phone doesn't ring with customers wanting to know more about your product or service. Most websites on the internet are selling some type of tangible good or service. Getting customers to your site is very important, getting them to buy what you are selling is even more important.
When you have two website equally ranked, with equal product offerings and services with the exact same value proposition, then the last determining factor will be the the look and feel and overall customer experience. You don't have to sacrifice page rank and those seemingly useful tricks to get more visitors to your site. SEO Specialists might tell you its all about page rank, its all about how many visitors you get to your site and that is fine, I am more interested in not the amount of visitors as I am in the quality of those visits.

Selling Page Rank is not where it's at.
When discussing page rank with anyone it is important to remember that as important as page rank is, the sole focus of where you rank among the search engines can actually hinder your conversion rate. At the end of the day an overall S.E.O. strategy is key to any web campaign.
