"If I accept the other person as something fixed, already diagnosed and classified, already shaped by his past, then I am doing my part to confirm this limited hypothesis. If I accept him as a process of becoming, then I am doing what I can to confirm or make real his potentialities" - Carl Rogers
This quote of Carl Rogers by Rony Schenker in her knol is so perfect in describing the giant leap not only in eduction for children with severe motor disabilities by Prof.Andras Peto but the same principles and his original methods can be used for creating self help/wisdom education for people at large. His original way is to look at the physically challenged not just as physically wanting but also as emotionally challenged. So he developed this conductive education to take care of not just the physical imbalances but also the emotional imbalances. His education takes the abnormalities and makes them as normal as possible. Wisdom education is about taking the normal person and making him super normal. Prof. Peto's system can enhance the teaching of wisdom as his ideas are about improving the brain emotionally and wisdom education is also about improving the brain emotionally.
Futher I am trying to describe wisdom education from as many angles as possible. The above quote of Carl Rogers explains my goals better than I ever could. Wisdom is so hard to obtain because individuals develop a fixed pattern of thinking about their own self. They diagnose and classify their own worth and self importance not by the current reality but powered by their past frozen emotions. Thus people limit their own wisdom potential by limiting their innate capacity to change. If only we would accept our true destiny, our true potential to become our true self.
This quote shows us our folly of how we wrongly treate handicapped people and how we should treate them. This quote could very aptly describe just as well how wrongly we treate our own self and how we should treate our self.
