Michael Savage knows nothing about Autism.

He is cuckoo for Co-Co Puffs...

The reason I am writing is simple. I am truly saddened that Mr. Savage chose to speak out about Autism, a subject he clearly knows very little about. I think the proper "lesson" he needs and would benefit greatly from, would be for him to have the opportunity to care for a child with severe, moderate, or even mild Autism for one hour to help him gain some compassion and understanding of the complex disorder of Autism. I am hoping in my heart he would be open to this, because Autism is right now being called an "epidemic", not that it is, it could be, but honestly...Thank God there is finally better diagnosis for parents and children! Yes, diagnosis' may not be "spot on" accurate every time, but doctors and specialists are definately gaining better insight to understanding autism. We went through hell having our son properly diagnosed. He is almost 9 now. Six years ago there was so little information out there for us and I am so happy there is such an awareness now! My son is doing well and that is do to proper diagnosis and lots of early intervention. Mr. Savage needs to understand that the autism label/ diagnosis is not what any parents dreamed of while having when their child in utero. But, a good parent understands to help their child, he or she needs the diagnosis.  I have no idea why he thinks this is a cake-walk or that we win the lottey or something. The day we recieved the diagnosis I was crushed, but had to pick my tail up and find a good specialist, school, and plan of attack for my son! Nothing for our son is covered by the government, except for his education, which is paid for by our hard-earned tax dollars, so actually we pay for everything!  I'd like to meet the families receiving money for therapy Mr. Savage is referring to, because I am pretty sure they do not exist. (If they do, please contact me swiftly! I need to sign up for the free money! LOL!) You would truly need to be in poverty to get assistance for your child. There is in some states certain therapies that are covered for reduced costs, before your child reaches the age of 3. But, most children are not diagnosed with autism until after the age of 3. Mr. Savage needs to gain a heart and think about those families and children he is criticizing before speaking out on a topic like autism on his program.

Nothing covered by the government?

I have the utmost compassion for those diagnosed with Autism and any other multitude of developmental conditions as I work for an agency that cares for such children. The children live at the agency and I work in one of their residences. Um... it's ALL funded by medicare and other such programs. Am I missing something? Of course these children are profound cases but perhaps your Knol (as their calling them) needs some adjustment.

Anyway, I haven't listened to Michael Savage in a long time. He is sometimes entertaining but that is all. He speaks with an authoritative voice which sometimes pervades knowledge, of which he often has little on many subjects. That is radio though. A ratings machine just like television. He gets the bucks for getting you upset. So, in a way you've defeated yourself. Shucks, spoiled again. :)

Best of luck with your son and his education. Best of health to you.
