Introduction to University of Mumbai
It is situated in Maharashtra State of India. It was established in 1857. It is one of the oldest University in India. It is formerly called University of Bombay. as the name of the city changed from Bombay to Mumbai, the name of the University has been changed from 'University of Bombay' to "University of Mumbai" according to the Government Gazette dated 4th September, 1996. It is recognized as one among the three Universities of India. National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has honoured it by giving the five star ranking. It has two campuses of area 230 acres and 13 acres, with 1.25 million square feet of built-up area, 22 thousand sq. feet of class-rooms and 84 thousand sq feet of laboratory space.It has two post-graduate centers, 354 affiliated colleges and 36 Departments. It have several high ranking reaserch institutes such as Institute of Chemical Technology (formerly UDCT), Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) a Deemed University of the University of Mumbai and the Tata Memorial Hospital.
The Mumbai University has played a key role in the progess of society by promoting scientific development. It has also started a Distance Education College that which will be helpful for the working profession as well as the people who are located outside the Mumbai.Dstance Education College offer under-graduate courses in B.A., B.Sc. & B.Com along with post-graduate courses in M.A., M.Sc. and M.Com.
