Simon Harris

Writer and Teacher

Some information about me

I have lived in Barcelona since 1988, where I arrived as a musician, became a teacher and met my Catalan wife. We have two daughters.

I currently teach English at the Servei de Llengües of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. My first book Going Native in Catalonia has recently been published by NativeSpain

I hold a BA in Psychology, a Certificate (CELTA) and Diploma (DELTA) in English Language Teaching for Adults from Cambridge University and a Diploma in Marketing from the British Council. I have recently passed my Nivell C in Catalan, a requirement for civil servants in Catalonia, and intend to take Nivell D next year, as this qualification will allow me to teach Catalan at the UAB (it's always a good idea to have a second string to your bow!)

My love of Catalonia has been shaped by circumstance. I came here and liked it. I met my wife and settled down. I had a daughter and realised that if I was ever to help her with her homework I'd have to do some reading up. I need Catalan for my work. And, apart from anything else, I'm lucky to live in a place that's so interesting to write about. I also love football, beer, The Clash and Tommy Cooper.

I have two main Knols projects. The first is based on my first book 'Going Native in Catalonia' and if you click on Catalonia Knols you can access the list of contents. If you like what you read, you can Buy Going Native in Catalonia on Amazon.

The second project is an idea for a book about Spanish Football. You can visit my research project-cum-website at www.spain-football.org and there's also a list of contents at SpanishFootballKnols

Invite you to bulletin board of knol

Season's Greetings

Came to your knol via the new Knols knol of Julian. Nice to know your projects on knol and your opinion on knol versus wikipedia.

We are organizing a bulletin board with the request to knol help that there has to be bulletin board in knol where authors and visitors can write common messages, discuss issues. Also as a part of this bulletin board system, there has to be question and answer facility for visitors. Any visitor to knol, for information on a specific issue should be able to write a question, when he could not find answer. Then knol community can try to answer the question and either modify the existing knols or create new knols so that other visitors can find the issue in one of the knols.

I invite you to visit the December month bulletin board being maintained by Sajid Khan and write your message/comments.
