What is a reseller?

A reseller is a host who has rented a server from another company or has a bought a reselling account to create their own hosting service.

Who can become a reseller?

Anyone! Renting a dedicated server is pretty expensive, but a reselling account isn't. Reselling accounts are really cheap (about $10-100 per month on average). Being a reseller is even easier because now a days people are giving away reseller accounts for free. They make you post on their forum to let you keep the account (post2host).

Are resellers reliable?

No. Most resellers are fly-by-night hosts who will go out of business within a weeks (and you probably won't even get a refund). Resellers also have poor technical support and sometimes even no technical support.

But there are also a few good resellers. I'm talking about big companies serious about their business. One example would be HostGator. So you need to watch out. But, you should try to avoid resellers.
