From 1999 to 2005 Timothy Chou served as the President of Oracle On Demand. Oracle On Demand pioneered a new business and delivery model for existing application software companies. Starting out with smaller companies based in the United States Oracle On Demand delivered enterprise applications to medium and large companies around the world. In 2004 he published the book The End of Software based on his experiences. At the time the book was published Salesforce, RightNow and Netsuite, all featured in the book, were not yet public companies.
For over fifteen years he taught introductory computer architecture at Stanford University so when he left Oracle in 2005 he launched the first class on Software as a Service (CS309A). With guest lecturers from some of the top consumer and business software companies it has become a popular class and is now offered every fall quarter. He continues to speak and write on the evolution in the software industry and recently published the book Seven, which is printed on demand.
He has served on the advisory board of Webex and is currently on the Board of Directors of Blackbaud (NASDAQ: BLKB). He blogs (too infrequently) at www.theondemandjournal.com.
